Division II second round

Long Beach Millikan (18-10) at Mater Dei (20-7)

Prediction: The Rams, 13-9 winners against MLK in the first round, have a sharp record but haven't face the amount of competition that Mater Dei has. The top-seeded Monarchs begin their playoff trek with a decisive victory. Look for the number of goals Mater Dei allows as the better indicator of where the Monarchs are at.

Division II second round

El Modena (23-6) vs. Long Beach Wilson (14-12) at Belmont Plaza, 3:15 p.m.

Prediction: The Vanguards earned the first playoff in their school history Tuesday but still feel they are seeking respect. While some fans on the blogs have not given El Modena the respect it is due, a tight score against the fifth-seeded Bruins should help. Moore League champ Long Beach Wilson, the former Division I juggernaut, wins the match but if the up-and-coming Vanguards bring their A-game and Erich Schwamb catches fires, they can make it close.

Division II second round

Tesoro (16-10) vs. Riverside Poly (19-9) at Sippy Woodhead Pool

Prediction: At-large qualifier Tesoro won its first playoff match in school history on Tuesday and has a strong senior in Michael Snow. But the run ends against the division's fourth seed and U.S. junior national goalie Gavyn Wild.

Division II second round

Canyon (20-10) vs. La Canada (19-9) at Pasadena City College

Prediction: The Comanches claimed their first-ever postseason victory on Tuesday but now face one of the section's most experienced playoff schools. La Canada won the Division III crown last season and will take a clear victory against a senior-dominated Canyon squad. La Canada's armada includes Spencer Borisoff, brother of USC player Devon Borisoff.

Division II second round

Santiago/Corona (22-6) at JSerra (17-9), 3:15

Prediction: The host Lions hope to make a deep playoff run but first they need to get past a solid Santiago team, which finished second to Riverside Poly in the Big 8. Both teams had a bye in the first round, so this one could be action-packed. But the rugged Trinity League and an improved nonleague schedule have prepared the Lions, who notch their first victory in CIF waters.

Division II second round

Servite (17-3) vs. Mission Viejo (16-11) at Capistrano Valley, 6:45 p.m.

Prediction: The Friars hit the road again and face a senior-dominated Mission Viejo squad. Co-champs of the South Coast, the Diablos are well-balanced and have a standout in lefty Andrew Baker. But Servite also is very solid and has a star in center Cruz Smithson. In mid-October, Mission Viejo measured itself against one Servite's rivals, Mater Dei, and were in the match at halftime before falling, 11-4. Servite's inside-outside attack will be too much for the Diablos and the Friars will advance to play Villa Park for a third time.
