Baseball: Second round schedule

The schedule for second-round games Tuesday.

All are at 3:15 p.m.  There could be site and time changes, of which we will post here when we get them.

(Orange Lutheran, which usually plays night games when playing at Hart Park, its home field, plays at 3:15 p.m. game Tuesday at Hart Park against Vista Murrieta.)

Keep in mind that when two teams meet after the first round of the playoffs, the team with the fewest number of playoff home games at that point of the playoffs is the home team. If the teams have played the same number of home games, then a coin flip identifies the home team.

Second-round games: Divisions 2, 4 and 6

Here is the schedule for second-round playoff games in Divisions 2, 4 and 6 on Tuesday for games involving Orange County schools …

Division 2 — Harvard-Westlake at Valencia; Aliso Niguel at Tustin; Redlands at Trabuco Hills; Cypress at Glendora; Mission Viejo at Damien; Alta Loma at Pacifica.

Division 4 — Savanna at Nogales; Jurupa Valley at La Habra; Granite Hills vs. Calvary Chapel at TBA (likely at Vanguard University); Katella at North Torrance.

Division 6 — Pasadena Poly at Oxford Academy; St. Margaret’s at Windward; Capistrano Valley Christian at Vasquez.

First-round games are today in Divisions 1, 3, 5 and 7.

Baseball: Orange County vs. The World

In Tuesday’s playoffs wild-card round, Orange County teams played non-Orange County teams in 20 of those wild-card round games.

Orange County was 13-7 in those games.

Baseball: Oaks Christian 6, Laguna Beach 3

Laguna Beach led 1-0 early and outhit Oaks Christian 11 to seven, but the Breakers also grounded into five double plays in their CIF-SS Division 4 quarterfinals loss to the host Lions.

Baseball: Palm Desert 6, Sonora 4 (10 innings)

Sonora rallied to tie the score in the top of the seventh in the CIF-SS Division 4 quarterfinals game at Palm Desert. Sonora took the lead in the tenth but, after Ryan Garvey scored the tying run for Palm Desert, starting pitcher Brooks Kriske hit a two-out, two-run walkoff homerun to send Sonora packing.

Baseball: Beckman 1, Paloma Valley 0

Beckman scratched out a run in the top of the first and held on at Paloma Valley of Menifee, 1-0, on Friday to  advance to the CIF-SS Division 3 semifinals.

Senior shortstop Garret Brown singled in the first inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Beckman (23-6) got another hit and then third baseman Zach Rivera beat out a would-be double play grounder to allow Brown to score. Read the rest of this entry »

Baseball Division 6 Breakdown

SEEDED TEAMS

1. Oxford Academy: The Patriots (22-2), champions of the Academy League, lost two games March 15. They’re undefeated since, a string of 19 consecutive victories.

2. Poly: The Panthers (20-2-1), champions of the Prep League, have won 18 consecutive games.

Oxford Academy: The Patriots know how to win and they know how to win championships. The Patriots have won the last two Division 6 titles. They’re the top seed and the favorites to make it a third.

DIVISION 4 Breakdown

SEEDED TEAMS

1.Palm Desert: The Aztecs (24-4), champions of the Desert Valley League, enter as the top seed. They are currently on a 12-game winning streak. Palm Desert can get even and put the game away in a hurry. The team has hit 30 home runs this season, led by Ryan Garvey’s nine.

Baseball: Division 4 County Outlook

COUNTY OUTLOOK

Anaheim: The Colonists (13-14) finished third in the Orange League and will host Estancia in a wild card game.

Estancia: The Eagles (13-12) finished third in the Orange Coast League

Katella: The Knights (16-10) were edged by one game in the Orange League race finishing behind Savanna. They are hosting Jurupa Valley, the at-large team from the Sunkist League.
