Football recruiting: Edison quarterback signs with San Diego State

Edison quarterback and Sunset League player of the year Chase Favreau (6-2, 205) signed with San Diego State as a grey shirt Wednesday, the senior said in a text message moments ago.

Favreau expects to enrolled at the university in January and be on scholarship after that.

“More and more teams are doing that,” Edison coach Dave White said of grey shirting. “I think they (San Diego State) like Chase but they already got a quarterback last June.”

Football recruiting: Edison’s Favreau sets first recruiting trip

Edison quarterback Chase Favreau will make an official recruiting trip to San Diego State the weekend of Jan. 20, the senior confirmed.

The Aztecs have offered Favreau the option of greyshirting.

The athletic left-hander also is talking to Sacramento State and Utah State about visits.

Favreau, the Sunset League MVP, threw for almost 1,900 yards and ran for 515 yards. He also can play defensive back.

The Chargers open play in the Sunset League by winning a crucial game against league rival Los Alamitos.

Tough Knocks – Edison: Shaking off a tough loss

In episode 7 of “Tough Knocks,” Edison’s players and coaches deal with their tough last-second loss to Mater Dei. Chase Favreau and Sedric Hill recap their emotions after losing to their former teammates.

During a bye week for the Chargers, they go hard in the weight room and begin preparing for their big game this week against Sunset League rival Los Alamitos.

Tough Knocks – Edison: Learning the hard way

In Episode 6 of “Tough Knocks,” Edison, a newcomer to the “Tough Knocks” program, is getting ready to take on nonleague rival Mater Dei. Two former Monarchs, Chase Favreau and Sedric Hill who are now at Edison, are excited to take on their former teammates and to avenge a loss to Mater Dei in 2010.

After trailing Mater Dei at the half, Edison storms back to take the lead. But a game-winning TD by the Monarchs on the last play of the game  leaves the Chargers in tears.

No. 1 Servite regains swagger as it defeats Edison (video)

Some Servite players believed that the reason they were sluggish in last week’s 24-16 victory over La Habra was because they overlooked the Highlanders, while bracing for this week’s game against No. 6 Edison.

There was nothing sluggish about Servite’s performance Friday night. The Friars went on the road and decisively imposed their will, defeating the Chargers, 27-14.

Edison-Baldwin game story

Looks like Edison did not get much of a challenge in the Chargers’ 48-10 victory over Baldwin on Maui.

Football: Edison wide receiver headed to appeal hearing on transfer eligibility

Edison wide receiver Sedric Hill (6-1, 180) is scheduled to have his transfer eligibility case heard by an appeal committee on Aug. 24, said Thom Simmons, director of communications for the Southern Section.

The appeal hearing comes after the Southern Section denied the senior-to-be his varsity eligibility following his transfer in the spring from Mater Dei, Simmons said.

Simmons said then-Commissioner Jim Staunton and then-assistant commissioner Rob Wigod determined that Hill’s move was athletically motivated. Wigod is now the section’s commissioner following Staunton’s retirement.

The calendar on Hill’s transfer case comes into play quickly.

Football: Mater Dei wide receiver Hill transfers to Edison

Standout Mater Dei junior wide receiver Sedric Hill (6-0, 186) has enrolled at Edison and began classes at the Sunset League school Monday, Chargers football coach Dave White confirmed.

Hill had 43 receptions for 609 yards in 2010 to help Mater Dei reach the CIF-SS Pac-5 Division semifinals. He was the Monarchs’ No. 2 receiving option behind USC-signee Victor Blackwell.

Hill had two 100-yard receiving games, including one against Santa Margarita. Blackwell was injured early in that Trinity League game.

Hill is the second high-profile Mater Dei football player to transfer to Edison in the last year or so.

Football video: Los Al’s big plays stifle Edison

The Griffins defeated the Chargers, 26-21, on Thursday night to win the Sunset League title outright.

Richard Turner had three TDs, while Nick Richardson had 155 yards rushing.
