Wrestling: Calvary Chapel update from Georgia

Calvary Chapel finished fourth at the Clinch Gear Prep Slam in Atlanta, Georgia Saturday.

Gordon McDonald (106), Adam Alvarado (120) and Elliott Taylor (285) finished second in their weights.

Mike Longo (138) and Aaron Negrette (145) both finished third. Peter Cunningham (113) and Peter Palacios (126) were fifth and sixth, respectively.

The ChurchBoyz will next be in action Friday in the annual dual with Santa Ana.

Wrestling: Church Boyz headed to Walsh Ironman

Calvary Chapel is the lone county team headed to Ohio for this year’s edition of the Walsh Ironman tournament, Friday and Saturday.

Joining the Church Boyz is North Torrance, with defending state champion Johnson Mai and St. John Bosco.

First session begins 1 p.m. in Ohio.

Wrestling: Calvary Chapel’s Mike Longo wins tournament

Calvary Chapel’s Mike Longo won the California Cadet Greco State over the weekend in Fresno. He also won the California-USA Triple Crown, winning Frosh-Soph state, Freestyle state and Greco state.

The journey from the O.C. to Fresno and back for Mike and his Calvary Chapel teammates Peter Cunningham, Blayne Briseno and Aaron Negrette was chronicled in a five-part video.

Wrestling: More national accolades for Morgan McIntosh

Calvary Chapel’s Morgan McIntosh, who became just the second county wrestler to ever win three state titles, was selected to the ASICS All-American team.

This is McIntosh’s (189 pounds) third time earning the honor. He is the only California wrestler on the first team.

Wrestling: Another award for Morgan McIntosh

Calvary Chapel wrestler Morgan McIntosh, the Register’s Wrestler of the Year and three-time state

Morgan McIntosh

champion, was awarded the national winner of the 2011 Dave Schultz High School Excellence award.

The award is named in honor of the Olympic and World Champion Dave Schultz. Each award recipient is evaluated on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, character, citizenship, and community service.

McIntosh was selected from the 49 state winners and five regional winners that were announced on April 19.

McIntosh capped his senior season with another undefeated run through the state, culminating with his third consecutive state title. He finished his career at Calvary Chapel with 189-5 record. All five losses came as a freshman. He will attend and compete at Penn State next year.

Wrestling: More accolades for Morgan McIntosh

Calvary Chapel’s Morgan McIntosh recently won his second consecutive FloNationals title, when he defeated Gabe Dean of Michigan, 11-5 in the finals at 189 pounds.
McIntosh, the Register’s Wrestler of the Year, was also selected as the InterMat 2011 Wrestler of the Year.

The Penn State-bound McIntosh capped his senior season by winning his third CIF State title.
