Outlook: We all knew the Trinity League would come down to this right. At least that’s what Fox Sports was hoping when it announced its regular-season schedule.

The Monarchs, suddenly with the balanced offensive attack and stingy defense, are one step away from claiming their first outright Trinity League title. B

But they’re going to have to get through Orange Lutheran and that hasn’t been easy in recent years. Orange Lutheran has won the previous three meetings and four of the last five.

Mater Dei defeated St. John Bosco, 35-6 without a big game from Matt Barkley. Barkley passed for 160 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns.

They wouldn’t have lost that game if it were played earlier in the year, but this is your new and improved Monarchs.

The Lancers bounced back after their loss to Servite with a 49-28 victory over Santa Margarita. The Lancers had two rushers top 100 yards (Kyle Dravis and Damani Wilson).

That running game will be important in order to keep Barkley off the field. I have a feeling that he will throw for more than 160 yards.

Can the Mater Dei offensive line hold up against the Orange Lutheran pressure?

How will the Mater Dei receivers fare against the tandem of defensive back tandem of Terrence Brown and Gabe Lemon?

Has Jaron Hytche clinched Trinity League Offense MVP yet?

Outlook: There so many “what if” situations regarding the Sunset League that it will make your head hurt.

Los Alamitos is in a simple situation: Win and they're in. But will it be that easy? It is never easy in this league.

The Griffins were close to losing their second consecutive league game before rallying for a 22-21 victory over Esperanza.

The Sailors are on of those teams in need of help. Newport Harbor has the tiebreaker over Esperanza, but has already lost to Fountain Valley and Edison.

The Sailors started league with two consecutive losses, but have rebounded with victories over Esperanza and Marina by a combined scored of 84-13.

Quarterback Andrew McDonald has passed for 351 yards in the two games, and JB Green has caught four touchdowns.

This game is certain to go down to the wire. It has to, but who will be celebrating when it is done?

Outlook: Did you give up on El Dorado? After a 1-5 start it might have been easy to.

However, after three consecutive league victories, here is El Dorado with a shot at grabbing a share of the league title.

El Dorado is averaging 45.3 points over its past three games. Kane Wilson struggled with a shoulder injury earlier this season but has the offense in gear now.

Sinjian Hathoot and Brock Dunn have combined for 12 rushing touchdowns.

Tustin had a slow start of its own (0-3), but that was then and now the Tillers are leaving opponents sprawled out on the field.

Tustin is on a six-game winning streak. The offense is averaging 51.3 points a game during that stretch.

The ground game is led by Anthony Wilkerson (1,149 yards and 16 touchdowns) and Ameer Webb (756 yards and 10 touchdowns).

Defensively, Tustin is just as menacing with the likes of Chris Robinson, Justice Tausaga and Faitele Faafoi on the line.

Will all of this be too much for El Dorado? Can the Golden Hawks bank of their big game experience to carry them to a share of the Century League title?

Outlook: If last year is any indication, then this game will not be decided until late in the fourth quarter.

Pacifica defeated Cypress, 35-34 in the regular season last year. The teams met again with a CIF title on the line and the Centurions rallied for a 36-30 victory.

If you’re going to this game, do not leave your seat until the horn sounds.

A victory would give Cypress the outright Empire League title. If it Pacifica wins, it opens the door for a possible three-way tie for the league title (along with Valencia).

Both teams have overcome slow starts to get to this meeting for the league title. Cypress started 0-2 and has won six of its past seven games. Pacifica lost three of its first four and was 2-4 after losing to Valencia in the Empire League opener.

The Mariners have won three consecutive games. Pacifica has been winning without senior quarterback Raymond Huizar (elbow), but running back Josh Brannon has carried the offense. Brannon has rushed for 916 yards in four league games.

If Huizar makes it back for this game or in the playoffs, then the Mariners will be difficult to defeat.

Since allowing 49 points to Mater Dei in the season opener, the Centurions have held all of their opponents to 20 points or less.

Will they able to contain Brannon?

Outlook: There is a possibility of the Sunset League finishing in five-way tie with Los Alamitos, Newport Harbor, Edison, Esperanza and Fountain Valley all ending up 3-2. That would be amazing and crazy all at the same time.

The Chargers escaped last week’s Bell Game with Fountain Valley with a 14-7 victory thanks to a pair of late touchdown passes from Matt Viles. This game is certain to be just as physical and low scoring.

Edison had trouble getting its running game on track against Fountain Valley and it could be difficult against the Aztecs.

Edison won last year’s meeting, 9-7.

The Aztecs have to be kicking themselves for losing a 21-7 third quarter lead to Los Alamitos last week. Now they’re in a must-win and in-need-of-help situation.

The Aztecs will rely on their running game led by Jared Moore.

Can the Aztecs rebound? That 3-2 five-way tie is out there on the horizon. Will it happen?

Outlook: St. John Bosco will know its playoff fate before it hits the field Friday night.

Bosco needs for Orange Lutheran to defeat Mater Dei Thursday and then it has to defeat Servite. Bosco has already lost to the Monarchs and the Lancers.

Servite has a simple road: All it has to do is defeat Bosco and the Lancers are in.

Servite has won three consecutive games since losing to Mater Dei in the league opener. The Friars are allowing 9.6 points a game in those games.

The Friars are going to have their work cut out for them against Bosco quarterback Keith Price. Aside from his otherworldly numbers, Price, who is supposedly reconsidering his commitment to Washington, has been contained in Bosco’s two league losses.

The Lancers sacked him four times and intercepted two passes, and the Monarchs sacked him six times.

Can Servite’s defense get to Price?

The scoop: From fourth to first? That’s what at stake for the Lobos. Los Amigos was the preseason pick to finish fourth in the Garden Grove League. The Cavaliers can grab a share of the title with a victory, but could also finish third.

The scoop: Can the 300-yard man Robert Cruz do it again? A victory for the Sentinels will qualify them for the playoffs for the first time since 1984.

The scoop: A victory gives the Pioneers the outright Orange League title. A loss and the Falcons can get a share.

The scoop: The Tigers are in the playoffs, but could get a piece of the Empire League title if Pacifica beats Cypress. The Saxons need a victory and that would bolster their case for an at-large bid

The scoop: The Titans can wrap up the South Coast League title with a victory. Dana Hills needs a victory and an unlikely Aliso Niguel victory over San Clemente.

Outlook: The playoffs begin this week for the Dolphins.

Dana Hills is tied Mission Viejo, but has lost to San Clemente. The Tritons will likely win its final two games (Capistrano Valley and Aliso Niguel) and finish 3-2.

Dana Hills has this meeting with the Diablos and will close with Tesoro. … Ouch.

This game is almost certain to be a high-scoring affair. In fact, I guarantee that it.

Mission Viejo struggled defensively against San Clemente last week and now has to deal with Sean Schroeder and his band of weapons.

The same holds true for the Dolphins’ defense. If you give Allan Bridgford time to survey the field, then it will be a long night.

The game also features two of the county’s more underrated running backs. Jake Marshall (Mission Viejo) has rushed for 621 yards and eight touchdowns and Brett Giesen (Dana Hills) has 969 yards and 13 touchdowns, they figure to play an important role.

The Dolphins have to avoid the turnover bug that has plagued them in key losses this season (Edison, Newport Harbor and San Clemente).

If that happens, then they will have a shot, if not, then it will be a long night.

Can Dana Hills pull off the upset? Will either team have to use their punter?

Outlook: Another Bell Game. Orange Coast College will be rocking and the play on the field will be physical. What more could you ask for?

Fountain Valley has jumped up to No. 8 in the county poll after consecutive upset victories over Newport Harbor and Los Alamitos.

Kyle Middlebrooks gets a lot of the publicity and rightfully so (1,273 yards and 16 touchdowns). And he is only a junior.

However, aside from the defense (which has been amazing in recent week), quarterback Dominic Ragland also deserves some credit. Ragland has stepped in for injured starting quarterback Steven Santana against Tesoro, Sept. 12. Ragland has led the Barons to a 5-1 record.

When healthy, Edison is probably the best team in the county, but that has been the problem. Edison rebounded from its loss to Los Alamitos with a 55-14 victory over Marina.

The Chargers had Wade Houston (113 yards) and Davion Orphey (112 yards) top the 100-yard mark. That running game will be important against the Barons. Controlling the clock will keep Middlebrooks and the Fountain Valley offense off the field.

That is probably the only way to slow Middlebrooks. The Sunset League is wide open (again). Who wants it?

Outlook: The game to decide the Freeway League has finally arrived.

The Indians enter the game No. 1 in the CIF Southwest Division. The Highlanders are third, but held the No. 1 spot until consecutive losses to Pac-5 contenders San Clemente and La Habra.

The Indians began the season with a loss to Canyon, but has run off seven consecutive victories.

Fullerton has allowed 15 points in its previous three games.

Michael Allain has the key. The senior has rushed for 1,539 yards and 12 touchdowns. Can he get it done against the Highlanders?

La Habra’s nonleague schedule was geared toward having them ready for games like this. Ronnie Hillman is doing what Ronnie Hillman does (743 rushing yards, 572 receiving and 15 touchdowns). The guy is fast and smooth.

Junior running back Josh Quezada has been another key reason for La Habra’s success. He has rushed for 748 yards and seven touchdowns.

Quarterback Randall Nygren has passed for 15 touchdowns and six interceptions.

La Habra has scored 148 points in three games since the start of league.

La Habra defeated Fullerton, 16-6, in last year’s CIF Southeast Division final. The Highlanders held Allain to 63 yards on 19 carries.

If that happens again, it will be celebration time in La Habra.
