Girls water polo: Tournament tracker for Saturday

Here’s an update on the Falcon girls water polo tournament at Santa Ana Valley and the Western O.C. Shootout:

Saturday at the Falcon tournament:

Semifinals: Valley vs. Marina, 9 a.m.; JSerra vs. Buena Park, 10 a.m.

Finals at Valley: 1 p.m.

Saturday at the O.C. Shootout:

Quarterfinals at Kennedy: Ayala vs. Trabuco Hills, 8 a.m.; Redondo vs. Laguna Hills, 8:50 a.m.; Santa Monica vs. El Segundo, 9:40 a.m.; Vista Murrieta vs. La Salle, 10:30 a.m.

Finals at Kennedy: 4:20 p.m.

Football recruiting: Buena Park lineman headed to Pac-12

Buena Park two-way lineman Josh Tupou (6-4, 303) has committed to Colorado, Coyotes football coach Anthony White said in an e-mail Monday.

Tupou committed Sunday while on a recruiting trip to Boulder.  Tupou was recently selected the Freeway League defensive player of the year.

Earlier this month, Buena Park lineman Oscar Barron (6-4, 268) committed to San Jose State.

Yes, that’s two Division 1-A recruits from Buena Park. The Coyotes certainly are making progress under White.

Buena Park lineman Oscar Barron (6-4, 268) has committed to San Jose State, Coyotes football coach Anthony White reports.

Barron made the commitment while on his recruiting trip over the weekend.

Football recruiting: Two more offers for Buena Park defensive lineman

Buena Park defensive lineman Josh Tupou (6-4, 297) has added offers from Hawaii and UNLV to his list of scholarship offers, Coyotes offensive coordinator Ollie Lynch reports.

Tupou already has offers from Colorado, Nevada, San Jose State and Alabama State.

The senior will make an official visit to Colorado the weekend of Jan. 7.

Football recruiting: Buena Park featuring three Division 1-A recruits

Buena Park’s playoff bound football team features a trio of Division 1-A recruits to keep an eye on Friday when the Coyotes play host to Foothill in a Southwest Division first round playoff game.

Two-way lineman Josh Tupou (6-4, 297) leads the way with offers from Colorado, Nevada, San Jose State and Alabama State. The senior visited Nevada over the weekend and picked up his offer from the Wolf Pack, Coyotes coach Anthony White said Tuesday. He also is receiving interest from Hawaii.

Buena Park DL Tupou gets offer

Buena Park senior defensive tackle Josh Tupou (6-4, 297) this week received a scholarship offer from Colorado, Buena Park coach Anthony White confirmed.

See? You don’t have to go to a Trinity League school, or to Mission Viejo or Los Alamitos or Edison etc., to get the attention of the college sports programs. If you are good, they will know.

Fryer on football: Buena Park vs. Katella

BUENA PARK (3-1) VS. KATELLA (3-1)
Where, when: Glover Stadium, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Not many would have predicted these two would be 3-1 after four games. But here they are, two long-struggling programs thriving in the nonleague portion of their schedule with the potential to finish high enough in league to qualify for the playoffs. Buena Park handed Costa Mesa its only loss, and also has beaten Garden Grove League lower-strata teams Bolsa Grande and La Quinta. The Coyotes lost to 3-1 Estancia by three points.

Water polo recruiting: Buena Park’s Bone headed to WWPA

Buena Park senior water polo player Courtney Bone has committed to Cal State Monterey Bay and Coach Gary Figueroa (UC Irvine), her father, Jeff, reports.

The Otters are part of the Western Water Polo Association.

Bone, an attacker, was second in Orange County with 113 steals this past season.
