El Toro has named one of its former water polo standouts, Brett McCleave, as the Chargers’ boys varsity coach, athletic director John Johansen confirmed Friday.
McCleave had earlier been named the interim coach following the retirement in December of legendary coach Don Stoll.
McCleave was a first-team All-County center under Stoll in 2000, scoring 148 goals and earning co-MVP honors in the South Coast League. He went onto play at Golden West College and Long Beach State.

The school’s coaching staff for aquatics is in transition following the retirement of legendary boys water polo coach Don Stoll and the recent resignation of girls water polo Racc Julson.
McCleave is a former All-County center for the Chargers in 2000. He later emerged as a standout at Golden West College and Long Beach State.
He also signed with a professional team in Greece in 2009.
