August 13th, 2012, 12:10 pm by

The Southern California Renegades won the Connie Mack World Series on Saturday in Farmington, New Mexico.

Tim Robinson, who graduated this past spring from Ocean View and is headed for USC, was named tournament MVP. He was All-County first team this year. Other county players on the Renegades: Brett Barker (Aliso Niguel); Turner Clouse (Fountain Valley); Kyle Davis (Pacifica); David Fletcher (Cypress); Tyler Mahle (Westminster); and Art Vidrio (Orange Lutheran).

The Renegades defeated the Midland Redskins in the championship game.

Connie Mack baseball is for players who are 16 to 18 years old.

Baseball: Aliso Niguel’s Barker commits to UCI

June 19th, 2012, 10:27 am by

Brett Barker, an All-County first team pitcher/outfielder/first baseman at Aliso Niguel this past spring as a senior, has committed to UC Irvine, Aliso coach Craig Hanson reports.

Barker was Sea View League co-player of the year with Mission Viejo pitcher Kieran Lovegrove, another All-County first team selection. Barker batted .385 with 42 hits in 33 games.

On the mound he was 9-1 with a 0.79 ERA. His strikeouts-to-walks ratio was very good — 74 to 13.

Every time I saw Barker play this year, it seemed like he had at least two hits and/or pitched extremely well. He had 8 hits in 15 at-bats during the playoffs as Aliso advanced to the Division 2 championship game.

In that championship game, he pitched nine innings and allowed two runs in the Wolverines’ 3-2 loss to Pacifica.
