Northwood’s baseball players were treated after a 4-2 CIF-SS Division 3 playoff victory over Lancaster in Lancaster Friday.

The reward: pizza and soft drinks on the bus for the Timberwolves, according to Coach Rob Stuart.

That may have made the long trip home a little better for the Timberwolves, who move on to the second round.

By the way, Northwood was one of four baseball teams from the Pacific Coast League and Irvine to win playoff games on Friday. University topped Alhambra, 2-0;  Beckman defeated Downey, 2-0; and Woodbridge defeated Whittier, 6-2.

Baseball: Beckman wins third annual Pink Ribbon game

April 27th, 2011, 3:24 pm by

Beckman’s baseball team took care of business on the field Tuesday with an 8-3 Pacific Coast League victory over University to remain atop the league.

But much of the focus was on breast cancer awareness as players and coaches were attired in pink jerseys.

Coach Kevin Lavalle has held the event the past three years. He brings the pink jerseys out each year for the players to wear.

The players had no problems wearing pink jerseys, Lavalle said.

“They love it, they understand it,” he said. “The pink is just part of it. ”

Lavalle will continue to hold the event each year, but like many others, is hoping a cure is found some day and such an event won’t have to be held.

“I hope there is some day that we don’t have to wear these and we’ll have a little ceremony in the outfield and burn them,” he said. “Right now, it’s a positive thing but wouldn’t it be great one year that we didn’t have to have a think pink game.”

Woodbridge pitcher-outfielder Brandon Horth said today he has signed with Chapman University to play baseball for the Panthers.

“What made me decide on Chapman was they have a very highly ranked business and entrepreneurship program and they are in a good area,” Horth said.

Horth added:

“I chose Chapman because the coaches seem great too. They’ve taken great care of me and seem like very good coaches. They have also had numerous successful years.”
