Cross Country: San Clemente’s Eisele wins USTAF title

San Clemente junior Melissa Eisele took home the individual title in the young women’s division of the 2012 USATF National Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Eisele, who helped San Clemente win the South Coast League title and finish eighth at the CIF State Cross Country Championships last month, posted a winning time of  19:15.14 on the 5k (3.1 mile) course run at Ballon Fiesta Park (located at 5,085 ft above sea level.)

Tritons senior Elizabeth Hays finished eighth in the race with a time of  20:30.24, with Tritons junior Madison Huffman (20.48.09) placing 12th.

Foothill senior Jessica Selby (21:22.21) was 20th.

Boys cross country: 65th annual Mt. Sac Invitational (Friday’s recap)

Brea Olinda finished second in the Division 3 sweepstakes race at the 65th annual Mt. Sac Invitational Friday at Mt. Sac.

Freshman Austin Tamagno led the Wildcats, finishing fifth in a time of 15:24. He had the fastest time of all county runners in the Division 3 sweepstakes race.

Brea Olinda totaled 74 points, as all five runners score in the top 30. They were edged out by St. John Bosco (69), who had two runners place in the top five including individual race winner senior Myles Smith (14:56).

The Braves entered the meet ranked second in the latest Division 3 state rankings, with Brea Olinda ranked fourth. The Wildcats are also ranked No. 3 in the county.

Corona del Mar (280) was ninth, Northwood (314) was 12th, and Orange Lutheran (344) was 15th.

Boys cross country: Tamagno, Ogden continue strong seasons at O.C.C.

The county’s top two freshmen runners once again impressed at Saturday’s Orange County Championships.

Brea Olinda freshman Austin Tamagno finished seventh in the sweepstakes race, setting a new freshman modern course meet record with a time of 15:01.

That broke the previous record of 15:21 set by former Marina runner Arcos Celso in 2004.

Dana Hills freshman Jake Ogden helped the Dolphins win the team sweepstakes championship, finishing as the team’s No. 2 runner with a time of 15:10. He is now No. 2 all-time among all freshmen on the modern meet course behind Tamagno.
