Dunne’s standout season was extended Saturday when finished second in the seeded race at the Western Regional of the 30th annual Footlocker National Cross Country Championships at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

By finishing in the top 10, she earned a spot in in the national finals of the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships. The national finals will be held next Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego.

Mission Viejo senior James Cameron also qualified for the national finals. He placed sixth overall in the boys seeded race, posting a time of 15:48, third best among California runners.

“I went into the race relaxed and with no pressure,” said Dunne, who finished in a time of 18:12. “It was nice to finish second and I feel so much better than I did last year.”

Mission College Prep star Jordan Hasay (18:02) became the first runner to win four consecutive regional titles.

Running a smooth, comfortable pace from the outset, Dunne was among a group of six runners that formed the lead pack over the first two miles.

Hasay and Dunne separated themselves from the pack up Reservoir Hill, the final ascent of the course. Hasay then assumed a small lead down the hill and managed to maintain it down the final straightaway and around the track at Hilmer Lodge Stadium for the win.

The boys seeded race was won by Chris Schwartz of Foothill High in Bakersfield. He crossed the finish line in a time of 15:38.
