Steve Fryer
OCVarsity Staff Writer (Football, Basketball and Baseball)
If it feels like Steve Fryer has been around the Orange County sports scene forever, it’s because he has.
Steve was born and raised in Orange County, where he attended Saddleback High School in the ’70s.
His fondest memories all seem to involve playing basketball for the Roadrunners, where he would shoot the lights out when he wasn’t plagued by illness and injuries (ankle sprains in particular).
After graduating from high school, Steve attended Orange Coast College, then transferred to Cal Sate Fullerton.
Sometime in 1980, Steve made his first appearance on the Orange County sports scene as a part-time reporter for the Register. In 1983, he was hired as a full-time reporter. It was also that year when he married Cathie.
After having his daughter Stephanie and Sean, Steve started covering Orange County’s high school sports scene on a regular basis in the fall of 1990.
Whenever Steve is not covering a game, he is rooting for his beloved Angels and Chargers.
