Wrestling: CIF-SS Masters Meet schedule

Here is the schedule for this weekend’s CIF-SS Masters Meet at Temecula Valley High.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2013
Coaches and Wrestlers Registration (Mandatory) 7:30 a.m.

Groom Check Begins 7:30 a.m.

Coaches Meeting (Tournament Procedures) 7:45 a.m.

Weigh-in (All wrestlers must be present) 8:00 a.m.

Close Gym 8:30 a.m.

Open Gym 8:45 a.m.

Officials/ Coaches Meeting – Final Brackets 9:30 a.m.

Wrestling begins 10:00 a.m.

1st Championship Round 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (8 mats – Gyms #1 + #2)

2nd Championship Round/ 1st Consolation Round 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (8 mats – Gyms #1 + #2)

Girls wrestling: O.C. qualifiers for state tournament

Here is the list of county girls wrestlers who have qualified for the State Invitational Tournament tournament,

Savanna’s Kaylee Chevez in action earlier this season. Chevez is one of the best girls wrestlers in the Southern Section. She’s 31-0.

Feb. 22-23 at Lemoore High. The Southern Section qualifier took place over the weekend at Rancho Verde High.

The eight wrestlers in each weight class advances to the state tournament.

The list also includes how each wrestler finished in her respective weight class.

Girls wrestling: Update for CIF-SS Tournament

Santa Paula led the tournament after the first day with 137 points. Loara led all county schools with 71 points. The Saxons started day 2 in fifth place.

The tournament is taking place at Rancho Verde HS.

Godinez was in seventh place (70).

Defending state champion Bernice Blanco (Santa Ana, 128) pinned her first three opponents to advance to the semifinals.

There are a lot of county wrestlers in the semifinals. I hope to have a full copy of the final brackets later tonight.

The top eight wrestlers at each weight class will advance to the CIF State Tournament, Feb. 22-23 at Lemoore HS.

Wrestling: Santa Ana vs. Calvary Chapel dual info

Friday night is the annual “Iron Sharpens Iron” Calvary Chapel vs. Santa Ana wrestling dual. This year, the dual is at Calvary Chapel. Junior varsity is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7 p.m.

This is always a good show. This year, local MMA stars will be on hand to sign autographs and take pictures, and there will be some youth wrestling exhibition matches. There will also be an alumni meet-n-greet following the dual.
