Going into this week of finales, here is how I voted for this week’s top 10 poll.

Eichelberger’s Top 10 Vote

1. Edison: The “Battle of the Bell” turned into another dominant showcase for the Chargers, who blanked rival Fountain Valley 24-0.

2. Mission Viejo: The Diablos stampede of the South Coast League continued with a 55-7 rout of San Clemente.

3. Servite: After beating Orange Lutheran 45-26, the Friars can clinch the Trinity League outright by beating JSerra Friday.

4. Dana Hills: The Dolphins set up a first place showdown with Mission Viejo by posting a 50-0 shutout of Aliso Niguel.

5. Los Alamitos: The Griffins pulled out a hard fought 21-19 win over Esperanza.

6. Fountain Valley: With standouts Middlebrooks and Ragland stymied by the Chargers defense, the Barons tasted defeat for the first time this season.

7. Orange Lutheran: The Lancers are now 0-6 all-time against Servite.

8. Mater Dei: A 41-24 thumping of Santa Margarita puts the Monarchs in position to claim a playoff spot with a win over St. John Bosco Friday.

9. La Habra: After dispatching Sunny Hills 41-14, the Highlanders will battle Fullerton for the Freeway League title Friday.

10. Tustin: The Tillers 30-0 win over El Dorado was their first triumph over the Golden Hawks since 2004.

The next three:

11. Newport Harbor: The Sailors had little trouble in defeating Marina 49-0.

12. Trabuco Hills: The Mustangs have scored 137 points in their last three wins.

13. San Clemente: Even after a blowout loss to Mission Viejo, the Tritons can clinch a playoff spot by beating Capistrano Valley at home.

Their high school careers are barely a month old, and already Canyon's Jessica Vasilic and Elisabeth Bernabe have proven that they are among the best girls golfers in the county

Together these two freshman have helped turn the Comanches into a legitimate contender for a CIF title. They took care of some pretty stiff competition at Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Club earlier this week. Vasilic and Bernabe finished first and second in the tournament, shooting a combined 9-under par as the Canyon stormed to an impressive 11-stroke victory against Peninsula.

Recently I caught up with the two players at Anaheim Hills Golf Club to see what they thought of their impressive run during. Here's what they had to say.

Question: How long have you been playing golf and what got you started?

Elisabeth Bernabe: I have been playing for eight years since I was six. I started because I am not a very good runner, so I went through softball and tennis. My mom is a dental hygienist and one of her patients suggested golf, and that is how I started.

Jessica Vasilic: I started when I was about five and got into some tournaments when I was seven. But golf has pretty much been my life since I was two because my grandparents play and they were the reason why I started. My grandpa would take me out to the course and we would putt and stuff. That was in Sweden, and the I moved here when I was four.

Q: How much different are golf courses in Sweden?

JV: It is a lot tighter (in Sweden) because there are a lot of pine trees. The grass is always wet and it is muddy, so you get pretty dirty

Q: You both have payed in many AJGA tournaments as individuals, so this is probably your first real experience with team golf. How do you like it so far?

EB: I love being a part of a team because whenever we are done we all sit around and talk and have a great time. Even if we are doing bad we can all be there for each other.

JV: Golf is an independent sport, so it is fun to be part of a team and interact with the other girls. Even if you do bad, you know you have someone there who has got your back.

Q: You have both had so much success. Do you both surprise yourselves?

JV: Yeah. I guess I don't think about it, but when you have an amazing shot ... it is surprising. You don't expect that much. It is great when you have one. It all comes down to practice. I practice four or five days a week after school ... about two to three hours each day.

EB: When I am in a tight spot and hit a great shot, I am really surprised by the outcome. It is like a Tiger Woods moment for me. It is fun ... just to see the ball land on the green and make a putt. That's nice. I practice a lot too. I go to Black Gold or Tustin Ranch. Sometimes I play nine holes, and then other times, I will go to the driving range or work on putting. I usually practice two to three hours after school, but it is hard to manage the homework and all that.

Q: Do you ever get tired of golf after all of that?

JV: It is a passion. I love it. It is fun and relaxing ... you can get your mind off of all of the stress of school and the drama with friends.

EB: I have grown to really love golf. And I hope to continue it through college and maybe make it into the LPGA.

Q: What colleges interest you

EB: USC. My mom and her entire family went there and that is my No. 1 goal to play golf for them

JV: I want to play for the women's golf team at Stanford. Or Pepperdine.

Q: How good can this team be?

JV: I think we have a good team this year. All of the girls are really good and they have their moments like everyone else.

EB: This team is really good. We have girls that shoot in the 30s consistently. And then like that (MLK) tournament we shot in the 60s and 70s. Only one shot in the 80s.

Q: When you have such good players on the team, is there a friendly competition between the girls?

JV: There is always competition. Everyone wants to be No. 1, but at the end of the day, if the team is happy then it is all good.

EB: We all just bond together. We are all there for each other ... like we are eating egg rolls together now.
