Haylie Wagner’s blog on the road to the WCWS: Day 6

May 25th, 2013, 9:35 pm by

Hello Everyone!!!!

Boy am I excited about writing this blog!

Because Michigan Softball is going to the WORLD SERIES!!! OKC BOUND!!!

Let’s talk about the games today!

First game we were beat but that wasn’t going to stop us. We had 3o minutes to come back and be ready to play! We were determined and put our lives on the line. It was our seniors last game on Alumni Field no matter what and we were ready!!

I was suppose to start, but a small injury happened and Sara started. Sara has been doing such an amazing job this season, with all the troubles I have faced, and I couldn’t be any more proud of her. She is outstanding and one of my best friends! Were down 1-0 in the 4th but we came back in the 6th! Sierra Romero got HBP and Caitlin Blanchard gets a single and advances Romero to third! Next up Ashley Lane Again!!!! She does it again!!! Shot to left center! Brings home Romero, and Blanchard scores from First!! 2-0 Michigan!! We finish it off in the 7th and the last out to Romero and out number three! Michigan Softball advances to the World Series!!! WOOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Haylie Wagner

So this blog is all about the NCAA tournament and how Michigan Softball is doing! Well right now we are awesome! We have one goal each game and we are at our final step! We are going to OKC and it is seriously a moment that you cannot put into words. The excitement that everyone had when we got that final out. All of our hard work paid off. Our seniors were going to OKC for the first time, and Michigan Softball is going for the first time in 4 years! Our dreams are coming true. And that fact that I can still see Amy Knapp’s face when we got that out, how she just fell to the floor crying and the entire team was on top of her. I was right next to her and she couldn’t stop crying. I love Team 36 with all my heart and I cannot wait to practice Tuesday and head to Oklahoma City! We have the heart and desire and we never give up. We are not done yet! And we are so pumped!!

We are ready to go and just want to play again! So excited for OKC and I will keep you updated!!!

GO BLUE!

Softball: My Spidey senes are tingling

May 21st, 2013, 3:57 pm by

Canyon ace Hailey Hilburn walks her counterpart, Paige von Sprecken, to lead off the top of the second.

Amanda Dirks sacrifices courtesy runner Ashley Yoo to second.

Harvard-bound Cindy Okamoto moves you to third with a ground out.

Can YL manufacture a run right here? No. Lauren Brooks pops out to SS Paulina Anasis to end the inning.

Jezz Portillo, who has been hot for Canyon lately, leads off the bottom of the triple with a triple to the gap in right-center field. A lot of coaches would have held the runner at second and settled for a double, but Canyon coach Dan hay likes his base runners to be aggressive and he was sending her the whole way.

My Spidey senses are tingling and I sense Canyon getting a run.

Softball: OLu applying pressure; summer blockbuster guide

May 3rd, 2013, 4:51 pm by

Orange Lutheran is back to applying the pressure.

San Diego-bound Olivia Sandusky leads off the top of the fifth with a single for the Lancers.

Samantha Arents sacrifices her to second.

Mater Dei shortstop Nikki Udria makes an over-the-shoulder catch on a pop up by Mackenzie Boesel. Udria has ridiculous defense. Two down.

Utah State-bound Devin Montgomery beats out an infield single and Sandusky scores from second with some heads-up base running. That makes it 4-2.

Adrianna Millan smokes a line-drive single … DENIED! Mater Dei third baseman Melissa Rochford makes the stabbing catch to end the inning.

The No. 1 pick in the OCVarsity Fantasy League Draft steps up to the plate with one out in the bottom of the fifth. That’s right, Mater Dei’s Nikki Udria. I told you before about her speed. She bunts and she’s on with a single. She steals second with another face-first dive.

Rochford grounds out, but she moves Udria to third. Two down.

Morganne Flores, another OCVarsity Fantasy League lottery pick, steps to the plate. Flores is 2 for 2 with a triple, a run and an RBI. OLu ace Jade Vcvanags gets Flores on a ground out this time.

Orange Lutheran 4, Mater Dei 2 after 5 innings.

Here’s my list of must-see blockbusters for 2013 in order of how jacked up I am to see them: 1. Star Trek: Into Darkness; 2. Iron Man 3; 3. Kick-Ass 2; 4. Man of Steel; 5. World War Z; 6. Elysium; 7. Softball: Vikings threatening

May 2nd, 2013, 4:17 pm by

Top of the order coming up for Edison in the top of the third.

Cal State Northridge-bound Carissa Sherman collects her second hit of the game with a blooper down the right-field line.

Notre Dame-bound Ali Wester grounds out to short. Sherman was going on the pitch and ends up at second base.

Notre Dame-bound Karley Wester slices one to left field … DENIED!! Marina left fielder Sydnee Cable makes a shoe-string catch. Two down.

Idaho State-bound Reis Birkett hits one off the third baseman’s glove, but shortstop Sydney McCollum picks up the ricochet for a 5-6-3 play to end the inning.

Excellent defense today at The Bash at the Beach.

Sydney McCollum hits one down the third-base line … E-5!!! McCollum is on board.

UNLV-bound Sam Agamaite sacrifices McCollum to second.

Edison ace Sammy Cordova gets Michigan-bound Tera Blanco to ground out, but that moves the runner to third. Two down.

Sydnee Cable flies out to end the inning.

Softball: Winegarner in dugout with Pacifica

April 6th, 2013, 8:21 pm by

Pacifica pitcher Kaley Winegarner is back on crutches from the emergency room where she had her left knee checked out and she’s in the dugout to support her team.

“I’m not going to miss my teammates in the finals,” said Winegarner, who said the doctor told her it was sprained and she should be back in two weeks. Winegarner said she will go in for an MRI next week.

North Carolina-commit Kaylee Carlson is starting for the Mariners and she retired the Mustangs in order in the top of the first.

Nicole DeWitt singled to left to lead off the bottom of the first. Brooke Marquez hits a line drive off Yorba Linda ace Paige von Sprecken and Pacifica has runners on first and second with no outs.

Bret Denio, aka the Human Softball Encyclopedia, is sounding very professional as the announcer.

PVS gets Faith Canfield and Rebecca Lee to fly out. The runners tagged and advanced to second and third on Lee’s fly out.

Ruby Rivera comes through with a two-run single to stake the Mariners to a 2-0 lead. Rivera takes second on the throw to the plate.

Pacifica 2, Yorba Linda 0 after one inning.

The new border for the North-South game is Warner Ave. Schools north of Warner Ave. are North schools; schools south of Warner Ave. are South schools

Nominate players you are certain are worthy of consideration, and who will be able to play in the game and will want to play in the game.

Send:

The 35-player South roster will be selected by South coach Scott Meyer of Corona del Mar and his all-star coaching staff. A maximum of three players are allowed from one school (with the possible exception of one wild-card school with four). A kicker who can not play another position could be added as a 36th pick and won’t count against the school’s three picks.

Shot of the week!

February 19th, 2013, 11:12 pm by

It’s not a high school game. It’s an NJB game at Los Alamitos High School this past Sunday. Here is 7-year-old Adam Jaffe making an outside shot — after the defender knocked Jaffe’s headband over his eyes! Call it “blind luck” if you like. We figure Adam already has that sixth sense about where the basket is. Proud dad Brent Jaffe sent us the link to the following, and you have to watch the entire 40 seconds to really appreciate it …

CIF-SS DIVISION 2 PLAYOFFS

COUNTY OUTLOOK

La Habra – The Highlanders had a chance to win the Freeway League championship but lost to eventual champion Fullerton, 6-2, on Feb. 1. That ended a string of four consecutive shutouts for the Highlanders.

Foothill – The Century League might have been amomg the most competitive this season. No team could really take control, and the Knights finished as co-champions with Villa Park after winning six of their last eight games. Their only loss in that span came to El Dorado which finished third in league.

Westminster – The Lions won their first league championship in more than 30 years. Their last one came in 1982 while still in the Sunset League.Adonis Robles scored three goals for the Lions against Loara in the victory that clinched the legaue championship. He led the team with 11 goals and seven assists

Fullerton – The Indians are a solid team led by talented forward Yazi Hernandez, but they really won the Freeway League by forfeit. Sunny Hills was the class of the league, but had to battle to finish third after having to forfeit five league games because two Lancers played for an adult league team during the season. They porved, though, that they can score some goals after beating La Habra 6-2

Villa Park – The Spartans are the other team that survived the Century League war, coming out as the league co-champions with Foothill after closing out the season with victories against Brea Olinda, Canyon and Esperanza. Jason Sanders leads the team with 13 goals.
