We’re in the break before the championship finals. Vinny Pisani (El Modena, 135) is the lone county wrestler in the finals. I think I predicted that he would win a state title during my weekly video segment, we’ll see if he makes me look smart.

Scott Chene lost a hard-fought 3-2 match to Justin Arrendondo of Buchanan in the semifinals at 130. The best Chene can hope is third place. He’s a tough kid, physically and mentally, I think he can get there.

Roell lost to Archie Tovar (Selma), 6-5 in overtime at 145 pounds.

Josh George (140) just earned himself a spot in the top eight at 140 pounds.

George defeated Dane Stevens of Scotts Valley, 6-4.

Lin scored the first takedown against Richard Alarcon (Mayfair), but Alarcon scored the next five points to win, 5-2. Lin is eliminated. Next up in a few minutes will be Josh George (Newport Harbor, 140)

That’s the scenario for the wrestlers here in the 9 a.m. matches. These guys are in the consolation quarters. A win here and they will guarantee themselves a spot in the top eight.

And the county has lost four wrestlers, so far. Adam Sabene (Western) and Kevin Barton (El Modena), both at 112 pounds, Trevor Gray (San Clemente, 152) and Anthony Duarte (Fountain Valley, 160). All four have just lost their second match, eliminating them from the tourney.

Bland just deposited his first victory of the tournament. Bland is looking for his third state title. I have a feeling, he’s going to get it. He recently signed with Washington State on a football scholarship.
