Another Monarch signs…what’s a preferred walk-on?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 by ADAM MAYA, OCREGISTER.COM since 2006

Mater Dei defensive end Nick O’Neill signed with Colorado as a preferred walk-on, his father, Dennis, confirmed.

“It means that he will go in with the regular team,” Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson said. ”There are two types of walk-ons, the preferred, and I don’t know what the others are called. The preferred starts on the first day of camp and participates in all the practices. The other walk-ons don’t participate until the first day of school.”
