Football recruiting: Segerstrom defender commits to Azusa Pacific

Segerstrom defensive end Kiona Drayton(6-0, 235) has committed to Division II Azusa Pacific, Jaguars coach Mike Maceranka reports.

“Kiona received a scholarship offer from Azusa Pacific and committed to play for the Cougars next  year,” Maceranka said in an e-mail. “He was recruited to play outside linebacker and rush end.”

Azusa Pacific also signed Canyon offensive lineman Admad Sunda (6-3, 295). Check out a video on Azusa Pacific’s coach.

Football recruiting: Capo Valley Christian lineman signs with Div. II school

Capistrano Valley Christian two-way lineman Alex Colombo (6-0, 275) signed Wednesday with Division II Colorado Mesa.

Last season, Colorado Mesa finished 4-7 overall and tied for fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Colorado Mesa also signed former El Dorado quarterback Travis Avila, who now attends a high school in Colorado.

Football recruiting: Two O.C. defensive beasts to roam Desert

Mission Viejo defensive end Garrett Marino and Tustin defensive tackle David Maka signed with Arizona State and Arizona, respectively, on Wednesday.

Marino and Maka are two recruits who could emerge as top defenders in the Pac-12.

Football recruiting: Fountain Valley’s Hinnant, Mission Viejo’s Bunte ink with Cal

Fountain Valley offensive lineman J.D. Hinnant signed today with Cal, his father, Blake, confirmed.

Hinnant is recovering well after a serious car accident in the fall.

In other Cal recruiting news, Mission Viejo’s Erik Bunte also signed with the Bears.

Football recruiting: San Clemente’s Harlow signs, set for early enrollment

All-County offensive lineman Sean Harlow of San Clemente signed this morning with Oregon State, his father, Pat, confirms.

Harlow graduated from San Clemente on Friday and is set to begin studies at Oregon State on April 1, his father reports.

“He wants to get up there for spring football,” Pat Harlow said in an e-mail.

Harlow is the second high-profile football recruit in as many years to graduate early. Quarterback Travis Wilson graduated early to enroll at Utah.

In other San Clemente recruiting news, Sam Hunter and Landon Cook signed with Minnesota-Crookston, a Division II school that recruited the county hard. Kicker Bret Miller is headed to Arizona as preferred walk-on, San Clemente football reports.

Football recruiting: Santa Margarita wide out inks with Washington State

Santa Margarita wide receiver River Cracraft, arguably one of the more under-rated players in the county’s class of 2013, signed earlier today with Washington State, the senior confirmed in a text message.

The Cougars recruited Cracraft to play slot receiver in their pass-oriented offense known as the “air raid.”

Football recruiting: Duarte signs to lead Mater Dei class, Lockett nabs offer

Register offensive player of the year Thomas Duarte of Mater Dei has signed with UCLA, Monarchs football coach Bruce Rollinson confirmed.

Mater Dei also had three other players sign Wednesday: offensive tackle Dave Bright (Stanford), linebacker J.C. Genova (Portland State) and defensive back/wide receiver Mychal Traylor (Minnesota-Crookston).

In other recruiting news, Mater Dei junior cornerback Jonathan Lockett has been offered by San Jose State, Rollinson confirmed.

Lockett joins La Habra’s duo of Greg Gaines (Colorado) and Toa Lobendahn (USC commit) as county juniors with scholarship offers.

Football recruiting: Santa Margarita duo signs with Huskies

Santa Margarita’s All-County duo of  Dane Crane and Connor O’Brien have signed today with Washington, O’Brien confirmed moments ago in a text message.

Crane and O’Brien have long been Washington commits and are rock solid players who should make Husky fans excited.

Crane is arguably the best center on the West Coast and O’Brien is a big-time hitter with a nose for the football.

Tustin’s Daniel signs with CPSLO

Tustin linebacker Marshaun Daniel is shown at left getting ready to sign his letter of intent with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Daniel, 6-foot and 210 pounds, was All-Empire League first team fullback this past season, but was recruited as a linebacker.

Tustin has a good group of signees today, as in past signing days.
