Hillman, a second-team all-county all-purpose player last year, said that he also had offers from Fresno State and Wyoming, before picking the Aztecs.

“It is a good school and I liked what I saw when I visited,” Hillman said. “I think that it will be a good fit.”

North All-Stars practice report

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 by Damian Calhoun, OCVarsity.com since 2004

The North and South All-Star teams started practice last week for the July 11 county all-star game.

Everybody expects the North will win.

I had that belief even before I visited practice Wednesday. This team is loaded on both sides of the ball.  (Check for the Q&A’s that I did with coach Brent McKee and linebacker Sean Kurtz).

However, one area of concern for the North might be in the defensive backfield. Savanna’s Stephen Jones tweaked a hamstring Monday. He didn’t practice Tuesday or Wednesday.

Here’s what coach McKee had to say:

We’ll see how that plays out. That kind of puts us in a bind because one of the areas that we were thin on were DB’s (defensive backs). We only took six defensive backs, so now we’re down to four DB’s right now with Stephen out. So, we have Ray Holley and Christian Daniel are both rotating over there and could end up playing both ways.

Check back later for my report from the South practice.
