“(South coach Jason) Negro says reverse on the first play.” It’s a nine-yard pass to The Abbott from Mater Dei.
Dan really thought it would be a reverse. You know, because if I were a coach I would tell my plays to the guy who picked the roster of the opponent.
Esperanza’s Brady Lukas intercepts San Clemente’s Brad Curtis’s pass and the North has it inside the South 45.
Orange Lutheran’s Blake Hyepock moves the North 20 yards before throwing a pick to Tesoro’s Chad Garrett. Garrett returns it to the North 41.
“That’s Ralphie coming up with the lumber,” Dan says a few plays later. I don’t know what this means.
It’s fourth and 4. “Is this your reverse now, Dan?” Fryer asks.
The South punts.

Dan Albano just scored a touchdown, Steve Fryer just did three good impersonations of the PA and Damian Calhoun just learned how to use his BlackBerry. My crew is wild nice.
I took a look through the program and I’m going with the Southside. Everyone is picking the North but too many of their players look like they aren’t sure if they should smile or not. Smiling is the new black.
Kickoff is moments away at the Brea Lions North-South All-Star Game at Orange Coast College.

Newport Harbor’s boys volleyball team fell in five games to Mira Costa in the Division I final tonight at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Sounded like a great match between a pair of traditional powers. The Tars still had a great season and might have the county athlete of the year in Kyle Caldwell.

Los Alamitos center Corbin Moore (6-10) committed to Pepperdine on Saturday, his father confirmed.
Moore averaged 15.8 points a game and a county-best 12.7 rebounds for the Sunset League champions.
Moore cannot sign a letter of intent until April 16, the beginning of the ”regular period” for basketball signees. Most players signed during 2007’s “early period,” between Nov. 14-21.

The pressure of playing the nation’s top-ranked girls team did not get the best of Magnolia. Sacred Heart Cathedral’s defense did.

Klay has gone most the game without defending Tapley. I’m thinking this is because of the Demar DeRozan fiasco from a month ago. When Santa Margarita played Compton in the CIF-SS quarterfinals, Klay picked up three fouls on DeRozan before the end of the first quarter. He sat out the entire second quarter and came back to lead SM to victory in the second half. This week, Klay told me he would be guarding Tapley. He only has one foul, so you wonder if SM coach Jerry DeBusk will make a change in the second half. Tapley’s effort has single-handedly kept Sacramento in this one.

Jaime Serna receives a great look from Klay for a layup, then tips in a missed layup by Trayce. Serna had a quiet first quarter, but he can always be counted on to contribute.

Santa Margarita swings the ball around on consecutive possessions and it results in two 3-pointers, first by Trayce Thompson, then Klay. Do the Thompson kids look unassuming?
