I was all proud of myself for bringing an extension cord and power strip because in years past electricity has been an issue at Bill Barber Park.
I was determined to have all my bases covered.
Of course, the CIF-SS staffers had everything this year. They had tables, electricity and a portable canopy. They even gave us food stamps for a free meal at the snack bar.
It’s So Cal and summer is upon us, so of course I wore shorts, completely, forgetting how cold it gets in the evenings at Bill Barber Park. It’s freezing. I almost had it all covered.
At least I brought a jacket. Captain Obvious forgot his jacket and suggested that press row huddle together for warmth.
BTW, El Mo put together a two-out rally, but Emily McEwen got thrown out at the plate trying to score on Devin Vanderhoff’s single to center. Great throw by Glendora center fielder to nail McEwen at the plate.
El Mo 7, Glendora 3 (after 3 1/2 innings)

Glendora loaded up the bases with two outs for the second time this game.
Martin Henderson of the LA Times, a.k.a. Captain Obvious, tells me if Glendora can get one big hit in this situation Glendora is right back in this thing.
Unfortunately, the bases are juiced for the No. 9 hitter, who grounds out meakly to second base to end the inning.
Glendora has stranded seven base runners through three innings.

Tracy Kleekamp blooped a one-out single to center field in the top of the third.
Haylie Wagner hit a hard shot down the third-base line. The Glendora third baseman tried to get the lead runner at second, but Kleekamp was safe and Wagner was on with a fielder’s choice.
Kleekamp and Wagner both moved up a base on a wild pitch.
Glendora pitcher Talia Ferrari got Alexandra Frediani to ground out to third and Allison Taylor to ground out to short to end the inning.
Glendora has stopped the bleeding, at least temporarily.

Glendora’s Kristen Peterson drew a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the second, and Danielle Soda singled to put runners on first and second.
Nicole Healy couldn’t get the bunt down to sacrifice the runners over, but she got the job done anyways by flying out to right. Both runners tagged and moved up a base.
With runners on second and third, Glendora’s leadoff hitter Shawn Miller flew out deep to right, which was enough to score Peterson from third. Healy advanced to third on the play.
Danielle Soda singled up the middle, just out of the reach of El Mo shortstop Carly Fellhoelter. Healy scored on the play.
Kylie Wagner got Briana Dworak on a ground out to third to end the inning.
Glendora is on the scoreboard, but can the Tartans stop El Mo from scoring?

UC Santa Barbara-bound Allison Taylor and Anissa Zambrano led off the top of the second with back-to-back singles for El Mo. A passed ball and stolen base moved them to second and third.
Kylie Wagner ripped a line-drive shot to the right side. Glendora second baseman Kylie Landeros went up the ladder to make an incredible catch. Then overthrew third in her effort to double up Taylor. Taylor scored easily on the play for a 6-0 advantage and Zambrano moved to third.
Glendora coach Reese Mitchell decided to make a pitching change, bringing in Talia Ferrari to replace Dana Waldusky.
It didn’t matter.
Emily McEwen ripped a single to the opposite field down the right field line to drive in Zambrano.
With two outs, McEwen got picked off trying to steal third to end the inning.

Glendora showed some heart by loading up the bases with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first.
Briana Dworak just barely got nicked by an inside pitch from El Mo ace Kylie Wagner to put a runner on first.
Glendora shortstop Natalie Hernandez, who had three hits against Pacifica in the semis, followed with a bloop single to center.
Kylie Landeros drew a walk to load the bases.
But Wagner got Brandi Andrews, who hit the three-run homer to beat Pacifica, to pop out to end the inning.

Semifinals hero Devin Vanderhoff followed Fellhoelter with a single. Tracy Kleekamp followed with a chopper to short. The Glendora shortstop misplayed the ball and it ricocheted into short right field allowing two runs to score.
Dana Waldusky got the No. 8 and No. 9 hitters to finally end the inning.
El Modena got five runs on four hits and one error for a 5-0 lead.
Fellhoelter was back in at shortstop to start the bottom of the first.

Fellhoelter didn’t get hit in the face. The Glendora shortstop landed with her knee on Fellhoelter’s stomach and knocked the wind out of her. After an 8-minute delay, Fellhoelter was able to walk off the field for a pinch runner. She will be back in the game.

Evansville-bound Kylie Wagner just drilled a two-run homer over the fence in right-center field off Glendora ace Dana Waldusky for a 2-0 El Modena lead with one out in the top of the first.
Waldusky didn’t even get a chance to recover because the very next batter, Cal State Dominguez Hills-bound Emily McEwen, hit a towering solo shot over the fence in left-center field to make it 3-0.
Carly Fellhoelter followed with a single and stole second. Fellhoelter got hit in the face accidentally during her successful steal and there is a pause in the action while she is getting looked at.
El Mo 3, Glendora 0 (with one out in the top of the first)

El Modena vs. Glendora for the CIF-SS Division II championship at Bill Barber Park in Irvine. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. I’ll be providing live updates throughout the game.
Ole Miss-bound catcher Kelly Nolan will not be in the lineup for Glendora. Nolan played the entire quarterfinal game against Vista Murrieta with torn ligaments in her right hand. She had surgery on her right hand on Tuesday morning. She was in the dugout with her teammates by Tuesday afternoon for the semfinal against Pacifica. She didn’t play, but she called the entire game as the Tartans knocked off the Mariners, 2-0.
Nolan won’t be in the lineup for the finals, but she will be calling the pitches against El Modena.
Stay tuned …
