Nine and counting.
That’s the consecutive number of matches that the Laguna Beach Breakers have won in three-game sweeps. The Breakers haven’t lost a game since an Oct. 15 match against Corona del Mar. That seems like years ago.
Things should be a bit tougher Tuesday in the Division III Southern California Regional Final at top-seeded Harvard-Westlake. Right?
The Breakers are ultra-focused on getting back to the state tournament, especially since they lost in last year’s final in five games.
One key to Laguna’s success has been the play of junior setter Alexandra Palmer. Here is what coach Lance Stewart had to say…
“She runs down more out of system balls better than any setter I’ve seen in county and she gives our hitters a chance to swing.” Stewart said.
(Was that his way of telling me Palmer should be on the Register’s first team All-County team?)
He continued: ”And she mixes it well, she knows when to set the middle and when to go away from Dana (Hutchinson) and she knows when to get Dana more involved and it is going to be nice to have her back next year.”
Can the Breakers continue their dominating play? Do they know the way back to San Jose? Should Palmer be first team all-county?
Sound off.
