Track and field recruiting: Foothill’s Rische headed to the Pac-12

February 4th, 2012, 6:45 pm by

Foothill all-county senior pole vaulter Victoria Rische has made her official decision to sign with the University of California.

Rische, the school’s all-time record holder, enjoyed another standout season last spring. She won vaulting competitions at the Mt. Carmel Field & Distance Carnival, the Triton Invitational, the Orange County Championships, the Century League finals, the CIF-SS Division 2 finals, and the CIF-SS Masters title before placing second at the CIF State Meet.

Her career best clearance of 12 feet 9 ¾ inches at the CIF-SS Divisional Finals last May is the fifth best clearance in county history.

Big slate of Signing Day events

February 1st, 2012, 7:03 am by

Several Orange County high schools have Signing Day events planned for today, with the first about to get underway.

The one that will garner the most attention isn’t until this afternoon, when San Clemente High will become the focus of the football recruiting world. That’s because Tritons offensive lineman Kyle Murphy, Orange County’s top recruit and one of the top O-line prospects in the nation, has said he’ll keep his college choice quiet until his classmates gather this afternoon.

Orange Lutheran has big list, but a name is missing

February 1st, 2012, 6:43 am by

Orange Lutheran sent over a list of 13 athletes who were making their college decisions official last night, but there was a pretty glaring omission from the list.

Lancers tight end Christo Kourtzidis, the No. 7 recruit in Orange County and a Florida State commit, was not on the list. We’ll be checking into his situation to see if he still is firm in his commitment to the Seminoles or if something has changed there.

Orange Lutheran had eight football players announce their decisions: Deion Williams (Duke), Darien Washington (Washington), Jabari Wilson (Eastern Washington), Grant Gunnison (MIT), Jordan Greenwood (Dartmouth), Elisha Davis (Humboldt State), Jordan Briggs (Georgetown) and Preston Kelly (Connecticut).

The Lancers also have Alyssa Schlom signing for track and field with UC Santa Barbara and four girls soccer players making their decisions official: Miranda Valdez (New Mexico State), Kristen Bailey-Yoo (Utah Valley), Darian Podmajersky (Richmond) and Corey Tobin (UC Irvine).
