The Tartans took the match 12-6 and earned their second consecutive Division IV championship.

St. Margaret's trailed 4-1 in sets, in the first round, and was behind 1-5 at No. 3 singles. However, Zoe Odekeric rallied for the 7-5 win. It brought the Tartans to 4-2, and avoided the dreadful 5-1 start in sets.

This is one of the most stunning turnarounds I have ever seen. In fact, I can't believe St. Margaret's ended up winning by such a big margin.

That's 50 wins in a row too.

Girls tennis playoffs: St. Margaret's posts huge rally http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com/2009/11/23/girls-tennis-playoffs-st-margarets-post-huge-rally/76993/ http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com/2009/11/23/girls-tennis-playoffs-st-margarets-post-huge-rally/76993/#comments Mon, 23 Nov 2009 23:43:58 +0000 Chris Tobolski, OCVarsity.com http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com/?p=76993 girls_tennis_iconThe Tartans have taken the lead after Round 2.

They lead, 7-5.

That's a major turnaround from Round 1. Rio Mesa led, 4-2, after the opening round.

However, St. Margaret's staged an unbelievable rally in Round 2, taking 5 of the 6 sets. Just crazy.

The biggest victory came with the Tartans No. 3 doubles team pulling out a victory over Rio Mesa's No. 1 team, 7-6. What a huge set for the Tartans.

St. Margaret's leads by five games after two rounds, 57-52.

Rio Mesa leads, 4-2, taking two of three in both singles and doubles.

St. Margaret's is the top seed, and owner of a 49-match winning streak.

Rio Mesa is 24-0 this season.

The strength of schedule, however, favors Rio Mesa.

St. Margaret's didn't play a county team ranked in the top 10 this season, except Sage Hill.

Rio Mesa's singles lineup is by far the best the Tartans have faced, and you have to wonder if nonleague matches against some of the county's top teams would have helped in the opening round.

St. Margaret's lost 7-5 at No. 1 singles and 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Zoe Odekeric was down 1-5, before pulling out a 7-5 victory.  That kept St. Margaret's alive.

The Vikings defeated the Dolphins, 10-8.

Campbell Hall won the 1st Round, 4-2, and the teams split the two remaining rounds, 3-3, each time.

Sabrina Santamaria earned the clinching victory with a 6-0 win over Alyssa Smith.

The teams split the second round, 3-3. Campbell Hall leads the match 7-5.

The games favor Campbell Hall right now, 49-44.

The Dolphins have a chance to go 4-2 this round, but it's going to be very difficult.

Dana Hills lost the match up of what was the No. 1 doubles teams. The Vikings won that set 6-3. That's two key doubles sets that have gone to Campbell Hall, and it's likely to be the difference in the match.

Santamaria and Lee blitzed the Smith sisters.

Santamaria won 6-1 and Lee won 6-2.

Campbell Hall also won two of three doubles, including a clutch victory at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. That was the key set of the first round. Dana Hills needed that set bad, and that is going to hurt later.

The Vikings are up 4-2.

Campbell Hall is the home team, so its players will rotate up.

You never know how it's going to go, but the Dolphins appear in trouble early.

The matchups seem to favor Campbell Hall this round, and it's possible the Vikings could put together another 4-2 round. That would make Round 3 all but meaningless.

Unless the Dolphins can stage a rally, it's looking like a new Division I champion will be crowned today.

Dana Hills will face Campbell Hall in Monday's final at the Claremont Club.

Dana Hills won the 1st round 4-2. The teams split Round 2. DH won round three 4-2.

CdM had its chances. It lost a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles in the first round, and lost a singles match in Round 2 after having a pair of set points.

Dana Hills leads CdM 7-5

CdM had its chance to even the match, but Victoria Wing found a way to beat Hailey Hogan, 7-5. Wing trailed 4-5 with Hogan serving for the set.

As it stands, the match looks good for Dana Hills.

Alyssa Smith, who lost Melissa Matsuoka 7-5, is playing CdM's No. 3 singles player. That also means DH"s No. 2 doubles team in playing CdM's No.  3 team. That would figure to be 9 games for Dana Hills, which has more games at this point. Plus, Joanna Smith would seem to be the favorite to beat Hogan, and that would 10 sets.

Dana Hills' victory at No. 2 doubles in the opening round is proving huge. That round could have been 3-3. Combine that with the fact CdM had a chance to win Round 2, 4-2, and it's the Sea Kings who could be leading 7-5 heading into Round 3. It's that close out here.

Dana Hills leads 4-2.

The Dolphins swept singles, and got a big victory at No. 2 doubles. Dana Hills led, 3-0, but fell behind 3-4. The Dolphins served to get the set into a tiebreaker, where they won 7-4.

That was a giant win, swinging the match from being even to having Dana Hills lead 4-2.

Corona del Mar rallied at No. 1 doubles, winning the final three games and the set 6-4.

Hailey Hogan went up early on Alyssa Smith at No. 2 singles, but the Dolphins freshman came back and won, 6-4.

At this point, it seems like the most CdM can hope for in singles is 2 sets. That would mean the Sea Kings need five of the final six doubles sets, but would probably be short on games.

Advantage Dana Hills right now.
