St. Margaret's football team's county-record 44-game winning streak ended earlier this season to Francis Parker.
However, there's another Tartans winning streak that's still going. The girls tennis team closed out a perfect 10-0 Academy League schedule last week to push their consecutive match streak to 45.
A day after earning its 11th consecutive Pacific Coast League girls tennis championship, No. 2 Corona del Mar faced No. 5 Laguna Beach on Wednesday in each team’s final nonleague match of the season.
It was make it or break it day in the Pacific Coast League on Tuesday, highlighted by the showdown of the county's No. 2 and 3 teams.
No. 2 Corona del Mar survived again, 10-8, over No. 3 University. The Sea Kings beat University on games in their first meeting.
What happened: The Breakers captured eight of nine singles sets to defeat the host Monarchs, 14-4, in a nonleague match Wednesday afternoon at Los Caballeros Racket Club.
Records: Laguna Beach 9-5, 5-0; Mater Dei 6-7, 4-2

The match today between No. 1 Dana Hills and No. 2 Corona del Mar is off, the wet conditions to blame.
No word on a make up date yet.
Like I said with the football rankings this week: I'm not sure if league play makes it easier or harder to sort the teams out.

The girls tennis season continues to get more interesting by the match.
The latest head turner was the Pacific Coast League match between No. 2 Corona del Mar and No. 3 University.
Sage Hill scored an upset over No. 4 Laguna Beach, 75-72, on games Tuesday.
Also, No. 7 Northwood downed No. 6 Woodbridge, 10-8.
And on Monday, No. 9 Laguna Hills defeated No. 8 San Clemente, 10-8.
What happened: No. 10 Tesoro captured five of the six second-round sets to pull away from and defeat Capistrano Valley, 11-7, in South Coast League girls tennis action Tuesday at Tesoro High.
Records: Tesoro 6-3, 2-1; Capo Valley 3-3, 1-2
In the latest CIF-SS Division I coaches' poll, Dana Hills was voted No. 1, Campbell Hall No. 2.
The teams met Wednesday at Valley College in Van Nuys for a possible championship match preview.
What happened: Laguna Hills captured seven of the nine singles sets to post a 12-6 victory over visiting Santa Margarita on Wednesday.
