Girls golf: Canyon wins CIF Regional

CHINO - The checks have been filled out and signed for some time now, sitting at the bottom of Coach Jan McKendrick-Harold's briefcase just waiting to pay for Canyon's trip to the CIF girls golf State Championship tournament.

Girls golf: Canyon flexes muscle at CIF Nothern Regional

For the past couple of years, Torrance has been the team to beat come CIF tournament time. This season, though, thanks to two extremely talented freshmen Jessica Vasilic and Elisabeth Bernabe - Canyon is proving it should definitely be among the favorites when the CIF Team Championship competition begins later this week.

Girls golf: Uni's Gulugian triumphs in CIF regional

girls_golf_iconHEMET - The longest putt was the only one to go one to go in during the sudden-death playoff at Landmark Golf Club, and when the 20-foot downhill right-to-left breaker dropped to the bottom of the cup, Ani Gulugian had a birdie on the par-5 No. 10 and her second consecutive victory in the CIF SS Individual girls golf Southern Regional.

Girls golf: Alston wins Trinity League tourney

HEMET - It happened on the ninth hole here at Seven Hills Golf Club, the shot that turned Santa Margrita's Amy Alston into the Trinity League champion.

She rolled in an eagle on the 438-yard, par-five and that helped her leap ahead of Victoria Nguyen to claim a 1-stroke victory over the Mater Dei junior on Thursday.

Girls golf: University's Gulugian is PCL champ

girls_golf_iconRANCHO SANTA MARGARITA - She is one of the top junior golfers in the country, a teenager who played against the top pros inthe world at the U.S. Open, but only once during her high school career has she qualified for the CIF State championship.

And Ani Gulugian has only got one more chance to win the most coveted prize in girls high school golf.

"That (winning state) is the only thing that matters to me as far as high school golf is concerned," Gulugian said.

Girls golf: League finals begin

girls_golf_iconAll six players from the top-ranked University golf team made it to the final round of the Pacific Coast League individual tournament which will completed today at Tijeras Creek.

Uni senior Ani Gulugian, one of the top junior golfers in the nation, wasn't the Trojans leader in the clubhouse. She played through some pretty bad flu-like symptoms and  shot a 3-0ver 75 at El Prado in Chino Hills. Her sophomore teammate, Melissa Wattana posted a 73 to lead Uni, which saw four of its six players break 80.

Girls golf: Nguyen is Mater Dei leader

Girls golf: Santa Margarita wins again

girls_golf_iconAmy Alston and Kelsey Hummer both shot a 1-over 37 on Wednesday at El Prado as Trinity League champion Santa Margarita defeated Orange Lutheran, 201-235.

It was the fifth consecutive victory for the Eagles, who improve to 10-3 and 7-1.

Girls golf: It's Santa Margarita ... again

girls_golf_iconTwo strokes. That's all that separated No. 7 Santa Margarita and No. 8 Mater Dei in Tuesday's crucial girls golf match at Tijeras Creek, and thanks to Kelsey Hummer's 2-over 38, the Eagles edged their league rival, 206-208, and won their second consecutive Trinity League title.

Girls golf: University gets its star back

girls_golf_iconAni Gulugian is set to return to the University girls golf team this week when the Trojans wrap up the regular season with matches against Pacific Coast League rivals Irvine and Beckman.

Gulugian took some time off to compete in the prestigious AJGA PING Invitational at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. She finished in a tie for eighth in the three-round tournament, 10 strokes behind Rachel Morris of Carlsbad.
