Golf: Greer, Akers top OC High School Championships

Girls Golf: Uni’s Gulugian finishes in top 10 in junior championshiop

girls_golf_iconAni Gulugian carded a 3-over 75 at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club on Friday to finish tied for seventh in the Rolex AJGA Junior Championship, four strokes out of the lead.  Kimblerly Kim (Pahoa, Hawaii)  won the tournament with a three-round total of 216.

Gulugain, a Register All-County first teamer, shot a three-under 69 on Thursday and was in a tie for fourth after the second round.

Irvine’s Victoria Park, the Register’s player of the year, finished in a tie for 13th with Sunny Hills’ Kristen Park, who like Gulugian recently qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open. Both Parks ended up two strokes behind Gulugian.

Two locals qualify for U.S. Women’s Open

girls_golf_iconIrvine’s Ani Gulugian and Sunny Hills Kristen Park both finished with a two-round total of 147 in sectional qualifying in Santa Cruz and have earned a spot in the U.S. Women’s Open which will be held July 6-12 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Penn.

Girls Golf: Foothill raises big money

On Thursday, Foothill girls golfer Ashley Husbands presented a check for $3,865 to the Blind Children’s Learning Center, which is located near the Knights’ campus in Tustin.

Golf: New OC tourney coming

University golf coach Michael Bova has sent out applications to the 66 coaches in Orange County asking for nominations to participate in the inaugural high school tournament that will he said will effectivley determine the OC Boys and Girls Player of the Year. It will be held on June 23 at Oak Creek County Club beginning with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.

Girls golf player of the year explained

This might have been my first season covering girls golf, but I am not new to high school sports. I have covered soccer, tennis, volleyball and even badminton since I started here in 1996, so I have had to pick my share of all county teams and players of the year.

Gulugian goes deep in prestigious girls golf tournment

University junior Ani Gulugian advanced to the semifinals of the Polo Junior Classic, a prestigious AJGA tournament, defeating Madison Pressel, 2 and 1, in the quarters on the Independence  (Watson) Course on Thursday at the Ginn Resort in Reunion, Fla.

Girls Golf Athlete of the Week

VICTORIA PARK, IRVINE

She won the So Cal girls golf championship, shooting a 6-under 66 at Canyon Crest Golf Club Monday Nov.17 to qualify for her first state championship tournament. She shot a 4-over 78 at Red Hill Country Club, the best finish among the two OC girls competing in the state tournament last Tuesday in Rancho Cucamonga
