Mosqueda-Lewis, a junior, played on the 2009 USA women's under-16 national team this past summer. Mater Dei's Jordan Adams and Alexyz Vaioletama and Brea Olinda's Justine Hartman also played on the national team, which won the 2009 FIBA Americas under-16 championship.

Mosqueda-Lewis was the Gatorade California Player of the Year and a first team Parade All-American as a sophomore. UConn won the NCAA women's basketball championship in 2009.

Harberts, who was on the California All-Juniors first team this past season, said she had coaches from Connecticut, Cal, USC, Oklahoma and Arizona State make in-house visits.

Harberts led the Cal Swish team to championships of three national tournaments and was named MVP of the Oregon National Invitational during the summer.

Salvatore is a three-time All-Century League selection. Her teammate, Nicole Ballestero, also a three-time All-Century League pick, recently committed to the University of San Diego.

Salvatore will join former Foothill star Blair Shinoda, who is a year ahead of her, at UC Davis, which should make for a pretty exciting backcourt.

Ballestero was a fourth-team all-county performer last season for the Spartans. She averaged 17 points, 4.4 assists and 3.28 rebounds a game. Ballestero has started ever since she was a freshman at Villa Park.

San Clemente coach Mary Mulligan-Crapo e-mailed that the 6-foot-3 Harberts had a recruiting visit from UConn coach Geno Auriemma this past weekend, and has visits lined up this fall to those five faves.

Harberts was on the California All-Juniors first team this past season.

She has had a great summer, leading the Cal Swish team to championships of three national tournaments and was named MVP of the Oregon National Invitational.

An outstanding coach, sure, but those who knew Tony said he was an even better man.

Mater Dei will play Brea Olinda in the Matson event. Mater Dei-Brea Olinda was the game of the year in the regular season of 2008-09.

Rosary, Foothill, Villa Park and Orange Lutheran also will play in the Matson event. With Rosary and OLu in the same league, the Trinity, you can bet Rosary will play either Foothill or Villa Park, and the same goes for Lutheran.

Looks like a great day of basketball!

Now, she's aiming for a big victory off of it. Mulligan-Crapo and the Tritons are hosting a fundraiser Thursday for the American Cancer Society.

Here are the details:

The Tritons girls basketball program is a Team in Training for the upcoming Relay for Life at SCHS. It will be participating in the Relay and is involved in a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

The fundraiser is a car wash this Thursday at San Clemente High School (700 Ave. Pico, San Clemente, 92673) from 9 am-2 pm.  The team is asking for a donation of $6 per car and the goal is to raise $1,000 that day for the American Cancer Society.

Hauser, a 1996 Laguna Hills High graduate, takes over from Scott Bricker, who resigned in March so he could focus on his business.

Bricker was 39-17 in his two seasons with the Eagles, and led Santa Margarita to a share of the Trinity League title and the CIF-SS Division I-AA quarterfinals in 2008. Last season, he guided the Eagles to the CIF-SS Division III-AA semifinals.

Hauser played collegiately at both Irvine Valley College and Chico State, and went on to play in professional leagues in Germany, Switzerland, France and Portugal. He also participated in preseason camps with both the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.

“I am very much looking forward to watching coach Houser with the team. He has had tremendous personal success and I believe he will continue that success with the SM girls’ program,” said SMCHS Athletic Director Rich Schaaf.

Hauser comes from a family with a rich basketball history. His dad, Phil, coaches at Laguna Hills High, and his sister, Whitney, was a First Team All-CIF player, winning the state championship for Laguna Hills in 1997 before playing two seasons with USC.

Matt served as an assistant under his father and also started the OC Elite club basketball program.

He takes over a program that has had tremendous success this decade. The Eagles have won six Trinity League championships since 2001 – seven overall – and won a CIF-Southern Section title in 2005.

Hauser inherits a talented team that includes All-County guard Melissa Zornig, guard Madison McKenney, forward Jessica Johnson, and forward Elise Lorenz.
