Football: 6:30 p.m. games? On a Friday?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 by sfryer

According to an early version of the 2008 football schedule in my possession, there are two 6:30 p.m. games on Week 0 — Friday, Sept. 5. They are Woodbridge-Sonora at La Habra High, and Northwood-Pacifica at Bolsa Grande High.

It’s hard enough for families to get from Irvine to Garden Grove for a 7 p.m. game on a Friday, sometimes the worst rush-hour traffic eve of the week. Going from Irvine to La Habra for a 6:30 p.m. game is going to be really difficult. A lot of moms and dads are going to miss some of the kids’ game.  That northbound 57 can be brutal — even when, like on this particular Friday, there is no Angels game at Angel Stadium.

The postgame scene: Fullerton-La Habra-Troy

Saturday, December 8th, 2007 by dalbano

SANTA ANA Yes, the postgame scene at The Bowl was joyous but intense.

Fullerton took the loss hard.

La Habra was thrilled and several Troy football players also glowed in the victory on the field in their Warrior jerseys.

“It was horrible the way we went out,” Troy quarterback Tyler Swaney said on the field afterward. “But it’s awesome just to see that La Habra is here. They really deserved this tonight. It was awesome to just see them play and win. Fullerton played pretty good. La Habra shot themselves in the foot a couple times. The score definitely could have been a lot higher for the La Habra side.”

One thing I really liked: I believe La Habra’s Aaron Novikoff, who had a sack, and Fullerton’s Manuel Rojas shook hands by themselves after the game. What a great example, though I’m not sure how many people saw it.
