O.C. football playoff picture coming into focus

football_blogWith only one weeks left in the regular season, it's time to examine the playoff implications of the remaining games and the playoff possibilities for Orange County teams.

First thing you need to know about the playoffs is who gets the guaranteed playoff berths. Four-team leagues are guaranteed two entries, five- or six-team leagues are guaranteed three entries and seven- or eight-team leagues are guaranteed four entries.

Playoff picture: Pacific Coast League

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

Laguna Hills (7-2, 4-0): The Hawks clinched the top spot with a victory over Irvine.

Irvine (6-3, 3-1): The Vaqueros hook up with defending champion Laguna Hills on Friday with the league title at stake. Irvine has tiebreakers over Beckman and San Juan Hills.

San Juan Hills (4-5, 2-2): The Stallions will be huge underdogs against Laguna Hills on Friday. San Juan Hills owns a tiebreaker over University, but Beckman has the tiebreaker over the Stallions.

Beckman (4-3-1, 1-2): The Patriots have lost to Laguna Hills and Irvine and beaten San Juan Hills. They need to beat University tonight to stay in the running.

University (3-5, 1-2): There is a scenario where University, San Juan Hills and Beckman end up tied for third place, which would mean coin flips would determine the final playoff spot.

Corona del Mar (4-5, 0-4): The Sea Kings have been eliminated.
