Girls water polo: Rosary's Rigler headed East

Rigler, one of the top centers in Orange County, said she picked Princeton over UCLA.

Rigler, pictured at the far left with teammate and UC Irvine-bound Hannah Croghan (right), is an emerging force and a huge get for the Tigers.

Girls water polo: Newport Harbor's McCall to sign with USC

girls_wpolo_iconNewport Harbor water polo player Colleen McCall will sign today with USC, her father, Mike, said in an e-mail.

McCall, the youngest of six siblings - all of whom have played water polo - , took up the sport the summer before her sophomore year but has quickly progressed to being a top player at powerhouse Newport Harbor.

She's certainly a player to watch this upcoming season.

I expecting to hear today that Laguna Beach's Lexie Ross also signed with Stanford. She had earlier committed to the Cardinal for women's water polo.

Send in Signing Day updates

recruiting_iconWednesday is the first day of a one-week letter of-intent signing period for boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball and several other sports.

A letter of intent binds a student-athlete to attend a college or university for one academic year. Once a letter of intent is signed, other colleges cannot recruit the student-athlete.

Another signing period for most sports starts in April. The signing period for football, soccer, cross country, men's water polo and track and field begins in February.

Athletes, coaches and parents are asked to e-mail preps@ocregister.com. Wednesday with any signings.
