Football recruiting: Tesoro OL nabs another Pac-10 offer

football_iconTesoro senior-to-be offensive lineman Sil Ajawara been offered by Arizona, Titans assistant coach Matt Poston said in an e-mail.

Ajawara also has offers from UCLA, Arizona State and Washington.

Arizona, of course, has already landed another top county offensive lineman in Matt Jakubiec of Servite.

Edison Passing Tournament approaching

Football recruiting: La Habra safety headed to WAC

football_iconThe recruiting news just keeps rolling out of La Habra. Defensive back Dominic Sierra (6-1, 206) has committed to Hawaii, Highlanders coach Frank Mazzotta said in a text message Tuesday night.

Sierra was recruited to play strong safety, Mazzotta said.

Football recruiting: More offers for Orange Lutheran duo

football_iconSo where was Orange Lutheran over the weekend? The Lancers participated in a two-day passing tournament at San Diego State.

The Lancers’ top recruit is linebacker/running back Garret Gilliland (6-0, 205). The last I reported on Garret’s recruiting was that he had an offer from Colorado, but the All-County selection has since picked up offers from Washington, Washington State and Duke, Lancers coach Jim Kunau said.

Orange Lutheran lineman Sean McEvilly had an early offer from San Diego State and has since added offers from Colorado State and Fresno State.

Air Strike: No offers for Viles but Ivy schools interested

football_iconEdison quarterback Matt Viles (6-3, 190) likely bolstered his recruiting stock with a strong showing at the Air Strike passing tournament Saturday at Dana Hills.

The senior-to-be doesn’t have a scholarship offer but has drawn interest from I-AA schools.

Air Strike: Montana definitely Pac-10 worthy

football_iconOaks Christian quarterback and recent Washington commit Nick Montana impressed me with his accuracy and mobility at Air Strike Tournament on Saturday at Dana Hills.

Sure, he has things to work on like all high school quarterbacks but the 6-foot-3, 191-pounder is certainly a Pac-10-level recruit. He has a strong-enough arm but not a Matt Barkley-like cannon.

Air Strike: Trabuco Hills progressing with QB search

football_iconTrabuco Hills’ J.J. Mayer was one of the county’s most under-rated quarterbacks last season. Mayer showed his value in the playoffs and later signed with Southern Utah.

While Mayer is a key loss for Trabuco Hills, the Mustangs showed at the Air Strike passing tournament that they still will be able to attack teams with the pass - and that’s good news for standout wide out Chris Simonton.
