Girls water polo: Corona del Mar hires Sinclair as coach

May 10th, 2013, 10:40 pm by

Corona del Mar announced Friday that it has hired former Newport Harbor All-County attacker Ross Sinclair as its girls water polo coach.

Sinclair replaces Sam Bailey, who left the CIF Division 1 champions for full-time teaching and coaching positions at Beckman.

Sinclair played for Jason Lynch at Newport Harbor and went on to play at UC Santa Barbara. At UC Santa Barbara, he was a three-time captain and two-time All-American.  Sinclair also played abroad in Europe, Australia and South America.

Swim: Crean Lutheran’s Ella Eastin sets U.S. national independent record

May 10th, 2013, 8:42 am by

Crean Lutheran sophomore swimmer Ella Eastin broke the U.S. national record for independent schools — or private schools — in the 200-yard individual medley Thursday night at the CIF-SS Division 3 finals in Riverside.

Eastin blazed a lifetime-best and Orange County record time of 1 minute, 55.15 seconds, which breaks the national independent high school record, according to Swimming World’s updated high school records. The previous record was a 1:56.31 set earlier this year by Kaitlyn Jones of Delaware.

The overall high school record — public or private — is a 1:53.82 set by Dagny Knutson in 2009 for public school Minot in North Dakota.

Here’s a video of Eastin’s 200 IM on Thursday night and her post-race interview:

Here’s some analysis on Eastin’s record by Swimming World
