CIF BOYS WATER POLO SEMIFINALS
DIVISION III
Wednesday
No. 3 seed LAGUNA BEACH (19-11) vs. No. 2 MONTEBELLO (26-3)
Site, time: Mt. San Antonio College, 6 p.m.
Outlook: The Breakers face a familiar nemesis in defending champion Montebello. Last season, Coach Kenny Clements' Oilers defeated Laguna Beach in a nonleague match, 6-4, and then in the Division III semifinals, 10-6. This season, Montebello has beaten Laguna Beach, 11-9, and, 14-6. Both matches this fall were in September.
After 37 years coaching football, baseball and most recently boys soccer at El Toro, Coach Ken Sjobom is going to retire at the end of the 2009-10 season.
He has lead the Chargers to two CIF Southern Section championships, including in the 2008-09 season.
El Toro coach Ken Sjobom said two teams are needed to fill out a new adidas South Orange County Classic, which will be played the week between Christmas and New Years.
The most feared and respected team in Orange County had suddenly turned into a bye week of sorts for all of the teams in the Trinity League.
It was that kind of season for Santa Margarita in 2008-09.
Disappointing. Frustrating. It's hard to win games when you score 12 goals total, and that includes nonleague games.
The Eagles had one of the best goalkeepers in the area, William Thompson, but he could only do so much. The perennial CIF-Southern Section champions missed making the playoffs.
Valencia, Fullerton ... and, yes, Servite.
Those three teams will likely be in the county top 10 at one time or another this upcoming boys soccer season, which will be underway in about four months.
Four months!
My pick is probably gonna be Valencia, they looked awfully good up in Sunny Hills
MISSION VIEJO - Juan Gutierrez and Dylan Seedman have quite possibly developed into the most dangerous duo in Orange County high school.
MISSION VIEJO - The scoreboard read JSerra 1, Tesoro 0. At first glance, it appears to be a close, hard-fought game between two equal opponents. That, however was not the case in this semifinal match at the Capo Valley Summer League.
MISSION VIEJO - In a game of near misses, Martin Licea finally hit the target for San Clemente "Pronier" with 10 minutes to go. And that's all the the Tritons needed to defeat Santa Margarita, 1-0, in a quarterfinal playoff game at the Capo Valley Summer League.
MISSION VIEJO - When JSerra coach Davor Fabulich saw Laguna Hills take a two-goal lead early in the first half on Wednesday, he thought this Capo Valley Summer League game was probably over.
