CIF council: Trio of O.C. appeals fail, releaguing ends

LONG BEACH - Brea Olinda, Laguna Hills and Western each appealed their releaguing positions but none received any support in an anticlimatic finish to what had been a wild CIF-SS Council meeting.

The process started with all 12 of the Orange County League representatives voting in favor of the Orange County Area proposal. The trio of appeals were heard, but after hearing those no council member made a proposal to support an appeal.

Yes, not much of a fight today.

The big news earlier was the placement of gridiron powers Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure in the Marmonte League for football only.

After that was approved, a good chunk of the crowd here left.

Update 1

The CIF Southern Section Council is on a short break but Orange County is up next for its releaguing vote. As council meetings goes, this has been a wild affair.

Tons of people. Emotional pleas. Lots of handouts. Old Southern Section officials surfacing to see the action - Bill Clark and Paul Castillo are here.

The big question for OC is whether Laguna Hills, Western and/or Brea appeal their placement and how that goes. Stay tuned for the latest.

Boys lacrosse: Todd resigns as CdM boys coach

Mark Todd has resigned as boys lacrosse coach at Corona del Mar after seven seasons.

Todd had coached at Corona del Mar since 2003 and led the Sea Kings into the county finals this past year.

The Sea Kings lost to Foothill, 10-8, in the county title match.

Todd plans to spend more time with his family and focus on his real estate career.

Lacrosse: San Clemente hosting college match Saturday

The San Clemente lacrosse booster club is holding a barbeque, followed by a college match between San Diego State and Whittier on Saturday, January 24 at SCHS.

Here are the specifics.

What: College Lacrosse (San Diego State v. Whittier) - 'Battle for the Triton Cup'

When: Saturday Jan. 24. BBQ starts at 5pm; match begins at 6 pm

Where: San Clemente High School

Cost: $5 - admission is free for SCHS students with ID card, military personnel and all current youth lacrosse players (OCLA) wear their team jerseys.

Event is held rain or shine.

Riley Lettington (Woodbridge, defenseman) - VMI

Jack Cranston (Santa Margarita, attack) - Vermont

Noah Molnar (Corona del Mar, midfield) - Lehigh

Brendan Yount (JSerra, LSM/defenseman) - Bellarmine University

The high school lacrosse season begins March 6.

Lacrosse: New teams to debut this spring

El Dorado athletic director Carl Sweet confirmed Saturday that the Golden Hawks will be fielding both junior varsity and varsity boys and girls teams for the upcoming lacrosse season.

El Dorado will compete in the Sunset League. Also stepping forward this season will be Esperanza with a varsity boys program.
