OC Varsity » Boys Golf http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com High school sports talk by the staff of the Orange County Register Mon, 23 Nov 2009 19:26:19 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.7 en-us hourly 1 CIF council: Trio of O.C. appeals fail, releaguing ends http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com/2009/10/22/cif-council-orange-county-releaguing-on-the-clock/70061/ http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com/2009/10/22/cif-council-orange-county-releaguing-on-the-clock/70061/#comments Thu, 22 Oct 2009 18:58:41 +0000 DAN ALBANO, ocvarsity.com http://ocvarsity.freedomblogging.com/?p=70061 LONG BEACH - Brea Olinda, Laguna Hills and Western each appealed their releaguing positions but none  received any support in an anticlimatic finish to what had been a wild CIF-SS Council meeting.

Stay tuned to OCVarsity.com for the listing of the newly approved leagues for 2010-2014. (Update: Click here for the newly approved leagues.)

The process started with all 12 of the Orange County League representatives voting in favor of the Orange County Area proposal. The trio of appeals were heard, but after hearing those no council member made a proposal to support an appeal.

Yes, not much of a fight today.

The big news earlier was the placement of gridiron powers Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure in the Marmonte League for football only.

After that was approved, a good chunk of the crowd here left.

Update 1

The CIF Southern Section Council is on a short break but Orange County is up next for its releaguing vote. As council meetings goes, this has been a wild affair.

Tons of people. Emotional pleas. Lots of handouts. Old Southern Section officials surfacing to see the action - Bill Clark and Paul Castillo are here.

The big question for OC is whether Laguna Hills, Western and/or Brea appeal their placement and how that goes. Stay tuned for the latest.

The inaugural OC Championships, held at Oak Creek in June, was  just a one-day tournament, but he'd liked to see the 2010 tournament played over two days, most likely on Sunday and Monday with the top 12-16 boys/girls advancing into the final round.

Bova said he's trying to get the AJGA involved, so they can award points which would help players get into one of the AJGA's invitationals

On Friday, Marina's Ashley Greer and Tesoro's Andrew Akers picked were presented with their perpetual plaques for winning the girls and boys divisions at the inaugural tournament in June. Bova told the two players to bring the plaques when they defend their titles in 2010, so next year's winners can be added to the plaque.
