Tex Wallis, 1926-2009

October 28th, 2009, 12:25 pm by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

Tex Wallis, whose 656 career coaching victories at La Habra is the second-highest total in Orange County history, passed away Tuesday night. He was 83.

Wallis was not only a great coach, but a great person. He was extremely kind to me, as a young guy covering sports for the old Brea-La Habra Daily Star-Progress in the late 1970s.

Services are private. There will be a memorial service in the La Habra gym on Nov. 7, time to be announced. There is a picture of Wallis hanging in that gym.

October 19th, 2009, 12:20 pm by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

boys_basketball_iconMater Dei boys basketball coach Gary McKnight said Andy Brown, former Mater Dei player, tore his ACL at a Stanford practice over the weekend.

It's awful to hear that Brown, a great young man, did it again to the same knee while practicing at Stanford.
