Who has the most spirited fans?

November 3rd, 2011, 8:46 pm by

Rain is in the forecast for most of Friday, meaning fair-weather fans might not make it out to some of the huge O.C. football games being played. They, of course, can spend their night with our live updates on ocvarsity.com.

But we want to reward the fan we feel shows the most spirit Friday, whether you find a way to stay dry or end up all wet. Our photographers will be at several games (see the list below), so you’ll have a chance to be a winner if you’re there.

Of course, holding up an OCVarsity or Fandemonium sign might help, too, if you’re trying to get our photographers’ attention.

Going to a game? Send us the score

September 20th, 2011, 12:31 pm by

OCVarsity knows how passionate Orange County’s fans are about high school sports, so we came up with a way for you to be part of the action.

If you’re going to a varsity-level game in volleyball, water polo or football this fall, you can submit the score as it changes through your smart phone. If you have a mobile device with a touch screen, you can keep all O.C. high schools fans updated on the game you’re attending.

When you go to a game, open a browser on your smart phone and go to m.ocvarsity.com/scores. When you go to log in, you can register or continue as a guest. We’d prefer that you register so we know who’s helping us out, but it’s up to you.

After you log in, select the sport, find the game on the schedule and start entering your updates. For water polo, after every goal would be great. For volleyball, try to send in updates after each game. And for football, we’ll take every score you can give us.

If you have any questions about how this works, email preps@ocregister.com and we’ll get back to you.

Los Al’s Barnes retires from teaching, not coaching

June 30th, 2011, 2:38 pm by

One of our staff members heard someone talking about John Barnes’ retirement at Los Alamitos and suggested we check it out. Seeing how Barnes is Orange County’s all-time football coaching victories leader, it seemed like a good idea.

Fans’ athletes of the year to be revealed tonight

June 8th, 2011, 10:09 am by

The winners of the OCVarsity.com fans’ voting for athlete of the year will be revealed tonight at our annual dinner, along with the small schools athletes of the year and, of course, the Orange County athletes of the year.

As we said in our rules, voting totals needed to be verified and winners would be determined. Because of some voting irregularities, that meant examining all voting totals along with where the votes came from to determine the winners. Remember: The rules limited fans to one vote per hour. The fans’ winners who will be announced tonight had the highest totals that did not include violations of that rule.

The winners of the fan voting were invited to attend tonight’s dinner because they were their sports’ athletes of the year. They have not been informed that they won the fan voting yet.

You can watch a LIVE STREAM of tonight’s awards ceremony from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
