Mater Dei's season opener hits prime time

Matt Barkley is coming to a TV near you.

ESPN has announced its 2008 high school football schedule and Mater Dei is on the list.

The season opener against Carson of the L.A. City Section will be broadcast live by ESPN2, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. The game will be played at Veterans Stadium.

Carson is the defending city section runner-up, losing to eventual champion Birmingham 41-6. The Colts went 11-3 last season out of the Marine League.

Barkley was rated the No. 1 prospect in the ESPNU 150 Class of 2009. Carson tight end Morrell Presley, who is also headed to USC, is rated No. 47.

ESPN will carry 19 high school games on its various networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU).

Coroner: Dylan Bradshaw had congenital heart defect

The sudden death of a Northwood High School student who collapsed on campus after a football practice was the result of a congenital heart defect, a coroner's report has determined.

Dylan Bradshaw, 15, was in the midst of a junior varsity practice May 28 when he complained of feeling ill, having what appeared to be an asthma attack. He reportedly moved to the edge of the field, sat on an electric flatbed cart and at some point collapsed ...
