Outlook: The top-seeded Argos, who won their second consecutive Garden Grove League title, are going after their first CIF-SS championship, It all starts with the Bucaneers, the fourth-place team from the Suburban League. Garden Grove has held teams to 7 points or fewer, including two shutouts, in eight of its 10 regular-season games. The Argos are averaging 49.2 points per game. Bellflower went 0-5 in nonleague games before rallying to go 3-3 in league to qualify for the playoffs.

Friday’s first-round game

BECKMAN (6-3-1) VS. LAGUNA BEACH (5-5)

Site, time: Laguna Beach High, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The Patriots are on a roll, beating University, 20-8, and Corona del Mar, 20-14, in the final two games of the regular season to take third place in the Pacific Coast League and qualify for the playoffs. The Breakers won their first Orange Coast League championship since 2006. Laguna Beach brings a high-powered offense that is averaging 40 points per game. Laguna Beach QB Austin Paxson (1,781 yards, 24 TDs) and WR Chris Paul (56 receptions, 805 yards, 18 TDs) have been among the most productive duos in the county this season.

WESTMINSTER (6-4) VS. IRVINE (7-3)

Site, time: Irvine High, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The Vaqueros finished second to top-seeded Laguna Hills in the Pacific Coast League. Irvine has been led by super frosh RB DaVonte Young, who is among the county leaders with 1,597 yards and 19 TDs on 191 carries. The Lions are the second-place team from the Golden West League. RB Jose Ortiz leads Westminster's offense, rushing for 1,158 yards and 12 TDs on 204 carries.

RANCHO ALAMITOS (6-4) VS. NORWALK (9-1)

Site, time: Excelsior High of Norwalk, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The fourth-seeded Lancers, who took second place in the Suburban League, own victories over Los Amigos, 58-6, and Pacifica, 32-14. Norwalk averages 419.2 rushing yards per game. The team's leading rusher is Adrian Gonzales with 1,050 yards and 15 TDs on 127 carries. The Vaqueros, who took third place in the Garden Grove League, bring a high-flying pass-oriented offense. Rancho Alamitos QB Mike Frank has completed 56 percent of his passes for a county-high 2,607 yards and 32 TDs. The Vaqueros have five receivers with at least 23 receptions.

ESTANCIA (6-4) VS. LAGUNA HILLS (8-2)

Site, time: Laguna Hills High, 7 p.m.

Outlook: The third-seeded Hawks won their fourth consecutive Pacific Coast League title as they look to defend their Southern Division championship. Laguna Hills is averaging 38 points per game and the defense is yielding 7 points per game. Estancia finished second to Laguna Beach in the Orange Coast League. Estancia RB Alex Abalos has rushed for 1,250 yards and eight TDs on 157 carries.

MAYFAIR (4-6) VS. SEGERSTROM (6-4)

Site, time: Segerstrom High, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The Monsoons may not be as good as they've been in the past, but their sub-.500 record is very deceiving because all of their losses have come against playoff-bound teams. Mayfair finished in third place in the Suburban League. Segerstrom earned its spot in the playoffs by winning its first Golden West League championship. The Jaguars offense is led by RBs Matt Navarro (728 yards, 11 TDs) and Aaron Amrine (593 yards, 13 TDs).

COSTA MESA (6-4) VS. SANTIAGO (8-2)

Site, time: Bolsa Grande High, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: In a battle of second-place teams, Santiago of the Garden Grove League takes on Costa Mesa of the Orange Coast League. The Orange Coast League has been considered one of the weaker leagues in the Southern Division, but the Mustangs can get some respect with a victory over the Cavaliers. Santiago's only losses came against Santa Ana Valley, which won a share of the Orange League title, and in league to top-seeded Garden Grove.

SANTA ANA (7-3) VS. LA MIRADA (9-1)

Site, time: La Mirada High, 7 p.m.

Outlook: The Saints, who took third place in the Golden West League, have a tall order in the opening round going up against second-seeded La Mirada, the Suburban League champion. The Saints will need to establish their ground game, which averages 224.7 yards per game, to have a shot at pulling off the upset. La Mirada QB Daniel Ponce De Leon had a big regular season, passing for 1,945 yards and 17 TDs.
