All-state softball: smaller schools and underclassmen

6_tarangoHere are Cal Hi Sports' All-State softball teams for medium schools, small schools and underclassmen.

One O.C. player (Segerstrom's Monica Segura) made the medium school team, while none made the small school list.

However, five O.C. players - including Canyon pitcher Cheyenne Tarango (pictured) - made the first team for underclassmen, while five more made the second team for underclassmen.

softball_icon_blog28Three Orange County players - including Mater Dei catcher Brittany Schutte (pictured) - were named to the All-State Softball first team by Cal Hi Sports.However, 12 O.C. players made other all-state squads.

Capo Valley coach arrested on suspicion of sex with teen girl

An assistant girls volleyball coach and teacher at Capistrano Valley High School has been arrested for suspicion of having sex with a teenage girl, the Orange County Register is reporting:

"Aaron Westbrook, a 25-year-old social science teacher at the high school, was taken into custody Monday at the school after officials notified authorities of accusations of a sexual encounter, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Los Alamitos receiver commits to UCLA

The Orange County Register's Mark Saxon reports that Los Alamitos receiver Paul Richardson has verbally committed to play football for UCLA.

Richardson’s father, Paul Richardson Sr., was a receiver at UCLA and in the NFL.

Los Alamitos takes on top-ranked Tesoro at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tesoro in the first round of the CIF Pac-5 Division playoffs.

University's Tyler Fletcher scored on a four-yard run with 7:51 left in the seond quarter to give Uni a 21-7 lead over Woodbridge at Irvine Stadium, Tim Burt reports.

Shootout in Irvine?

University's Tyler Fletcher ran from two yards out to give the lead back to Uni, 14-7, vs. Woodbridge at Irvine Stadium.

That's three touchdowns with 24 seconds left to play in the first quarter, Tim Burt is reporting.

Woodbridge ties Uni, 7-7

Woodbridge's Anthony Wilmbley rushes from four yards out to tie University, 7-7, with 3:27 left in the first at Irvine Stadium.

Wimbley also had a 36-yard run during the scoring drive, Tim Burt reports.
