The Woodbridge girls tennis team didn’t beat Northwood two weeks ago, but the Warriors came away with a feeling that they could.
Northwood defeated Woodbridge on games, 69-60, after the teams were tied in sets, 9-9, the first time the two squads met on Oct. 7.
The Warriors carried their optimism into Thursday afternoon’s rematch at Northwood and turned it into an 11-7 upset win that all but wrapped up a share of the Sea View League title with the Timberwolves.

GARDEN GROVE — An ugly victory is what Garden Grove coach Ron Vander Sluis called his team’s 49-21 victory over La Quinta on Thursday night.
There haven’t been any upsets this week, but it’s still early and there are several good games going on around the county today.

Momentum can carry a team to victory.
St. Margaret’s captured that momentum when Mary Rachel Walsh and Allie Davis beat Sage Hill’s Rain Billingsley and Isa-Maria Taskinen, 6-4, in the girls tennis No.1 doubles set.
That win propelled the Tartans to a 10-8 victory over the Lightning on Friday at the Balboa Bay country club.
A lot of interesting tennis going on now that league play and the All-American Tournament have happened.
Teams are starting to round into form and a lot of top 10 teams have already squared off.
Here’s a look at what’s going on and a few nuggets of info from around the county:

The University girls tennis team took a break from Pacific Coast League play but not from tough competition.
The Trojans, ranked third in Orange County, took part in the National All-American Tournament last weekend. It took on No. 9 Laguna Beach on Wednesday afternoon at home.
This was the heavyweight matchup of the season that everyone in Orange County was waiting for.
No. 1 Dana Hills and No. 2 Corona del Mar are the crème of the crop when it comes to girls tennis.
On Wednesday the Sea Kings most likely knocked the Dolphins from the No. 1 spot in the county with an 11-7 win in front of their home crowd.
Success has become contagious on the Valencia girls tennis team.
The Tigers are coming off back-to-back CIF Division IV titles, and they only lost one player from last year’s championship team.
Now Valencia has moved up a division, but its talent and hunger to go for a different kind of three-peat remains the same.
