Former San Clemente girls basketball coach Mary Mulligan-Crapo joined California coaching legends such as John Wooden, Bill Mulligan and Mark Trakh when she was inducted into the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame last weekend.
Mulligan-Crapo, who played at San Clemente and UC Irvine, was honored during the CIF-SS girls bnasketball championships on March 1 at Anaheim Convention Center.
“Well, I am honored to be considered and very proud to represent women coaches because there aren’t too many in the Hall of Fame,” Mulligan-Crapo said. “I am proud to be included on a list of such well-respected coaches.”
Mulligan-Crapo, the 1981 Orange County Female Athlete of the Year, coached at San Clemente for 25 years from 1987-2011. She had 500 career victories, 13 South Coast League titles, including 12 in a row at one point. She led the Tritons to five CIF-SS championships and eight trips to the state tournament.
She was the CIF Division 1 coach of the year three times and she was the South Coast League coach of the year 13 times.
She had 28 players from her program go on to play college basketball.
