Basketball: Servite fans damage Brea’s bleachers

February 20th, 2013, 3:58 pm · · posted by

The Asylum got too crazy last night.

The Servite student rooting section — dubbed “The Asylum” — was in force at Brea Olinda High on Tuesday night for the Servite-Brea basketball game, a Division 3AAA quarterfinal playoff game.

As you can see from the picture at left posted on Twitter, the Servite guys broke some of the wooden bleachers with their jumping up-and-down stuff. Brea Olinda principal Jerry Halpin said some framing under the seating also was damaged.

“It wasn’t malicious,” Halpin said today. “They didn’t do anything other than jumping up and down.”

Halpin said Servite principal Mike Brennan and president Pete Bowen informed Halpin that Servite would pay for any repairs required.

“We had twice as many kids as they did at the game,” Halpin said. “But not all of our kids are boys. Our kids did some jumping up and down a little bit, but they’re not as heavy as the Servite guys.”

Posting the damage on Twitter might not be the brightest move an Asylum member could make.
