WEDNESDAY’S CIF-SS GIRLS WATER POLO SEMIFINALS

DIVISION 2

SANTIAGO/CORONA (25-5 ) VS. MATER DEI (22-9)

Site, time: William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, Irvine, 5 p.m. CORRECTED TIME

Outlook: The fourth-seeded Monarchs and No. 1 Sharks meet for the fourth time this season. Santiago won two of the three meetings but each match was decided by one goal. The teams’ history extends into last season. Santiago also defeated Mater Dei, 9-8, in the Division

2 final. Santiago is led by UC Santa Barbara senior Taylor Shore, who scored five goals in last season’s final, and a mix of returners and newcomers. Like last season, Mater Dei features the 1-2 scoring duo of Mackenzie Barr and Brianna Daboub. Barr, a U.S. junior team standout bound for UCLA, has 88 goals while the junior Daboub has 87. But Sydney Blubaugh is a dangerous scorer, too, with 67 goals. And in the quarterfinals, attacker Audrey Light scored a career-high six goals in an impressive 12-8 victory against Agoura. Both team featured first-year starters in goal in the quarterfinals.
