WEDNESDAY’S CIF-SS GIRLS WATER POLO SEMIFINALS
DIVISION 1
SANTA BARBARA (25-4) VS. NEWPORT HARBOR (23-6)
Site, time: William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, 6:45 p.m.
Outlook: The defending Division 1 champion Sailors face a difficult match-up against the surging Dons. Top-seeded Santa Barbara rides a 19-game winning streak into the semifinals at Woollett, where it claimed the Irvine SoCal championships earlier in this month.
Santa Barbara handled No. 4 seeded Newport Harbor, 5-3, in the SoCal semifinals to improved to 3-0 against the Sailors this season. The three goals marked the Sailors’ lowest scoring output this season. Santa Barbara mixes defenses well in front of one of the top goalies in the section in MaddieTrabucco. The Dons also feature a swift and balanced attack led by the swift attacker Kelsey O’Brien. Newport Harbor also plays strong defenses and relies on standout junior goalie Cleo Harrington. The Sailors have their own swift attacker in Carly Christian, who leads her team in goals with 70. Elissia Schilling is Newport Harbor’s top center, and will likely extra attention from the Dons.
