
County teams took the first step toward winning a CIF-SS title during Thursday’s first round.
Here is a quick look at some of the highlights.
In CIF-SS Division 1
Capistrano Valley 3, Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks 1: Alex Hussar recorded a hat trick to lead the top-seeded Cougars (17-1-3) over the Knights (7-7-7).
San Clemente 1, Upland 0, 2OT: Nikki Faris scored the match-winner in double overtime, as the visiting Tritons (10-6-6) defeated the Highlanders (22-4).
Mission Viejo 2, Redlands 1: Kiana Palacios scored the match winner in the second half, as the visiting Diablos (10-7-2) defeated the Terriers (17-7-2). Jamilah Tejan also scored for Mission Viejo, who will host Harvard-Westlake in the second round.
Laguna Hills 1, Flintridge Sacred Heart 0: Kassi Olivas scored a first half goal to lead the Hawks (6-10-7) over the Tologs (15-3-3).
Santa Margarita 4, Foothill 0: Lauren Rodriguez recorded a hat trick to lead the host Eagles (9-5-4) over the Knights (10-11-3). Samantha Trenary added a goal for Santa Margarita.
Dana Hills 2, University 0: Sydney Chiodini and Hannah Ris tallied goals to guide the host Dolphins (12-1-4) to a victory over the Trojans (10-6-4).
Corona del Mar 2, Los Osos 0: Goals from Annie Alvarado and Miranda Stiver lifted the Sea Kings (16-3-4) past the Grizzlies (14-8-4) at Estancia High. Kat Hess and Kendall Mulvaney combined for six saves for Corona del Mar.
Edison 3, Redlands East Valley 0: Mackenzie Cerda recorded a hat trick off three assists from Brooke Lillywhite in the Chargers (16-3-4) win over the Wildcats (10-12-2) at Edison.
Canyon 3, Orange Lutheran 0: Camila Espindola-Villarino scored twice, as the visiting Comanches (12-8-5) knocked off the Lancers (16-3-6). Esmeralda Nunez also scored for Canyon, while Mia Hummel had seven saves.
Villa Park 2, JSerra 0: Naydeen Cabalo and Valerie Martinez each scored a second half goal, as the Spartans (18-5-5) blanked the Lions (12-8-3) at El Modena.
Aliso Niguel 2, Alta Loma 1: Ashley Ramirez and Lindsey Doyle scored first half goals, as the host Wolverines (10-3-6) edged the Braves (13-8-2).
Northwood 1, Yucaipa 1 (Northwood advances 2-1 on pks): Carina Hendley tallied a goal, as the host Timberwolves (13-8-4) outlasted the Thunderbirds (15-5-6). Brigid Overton had four saves for Northwood.
In CIF-SS Division 2
Sunny Hills 3, West Torrance 0: Goals from Sarah Fajnor, Kendra Serrano, and Jewels Zuniga tallied goals in the Lancers (21-1-5) win over the Warriors (13-9-4).
In CIF-SS Division 3
Pacifica 1, Los Altos 0: Taylor Bistline’s goal in the first overtime lifted the Mariners (10-8-4) to a win over the Conquerors (15-8-2) at Pacifica High. Meg Glisson had 10 saves for Pacifica.
In CIF-SS Division 4
Estancia 1, Beverly Hills 0: Jackie Hubbard’s second half tally was the difference, as the host Eagles (10-2-11) slipped by the Normans (11-10-2). Caitlin Leahy had nine saves for Estancia.
In CIF-SS Division 5
St. Margaret’s 6, Tahquitz 0: Allie Frost recorded a hat trick and two assists, as the host Tartans (14-4-4) beat the Titans (11-6-6). Tara Morris, Lizzie Barbaresi, and Madison Beach also scored for St. Margaret’s.
In CIF-SS Division 6
Segerstrom 4, Savanna 0: Vivian Vega’s hat trick spurred the host Jaguars (17-0) to a win over the Rebels (7-12). Melissa Mazariegos also tallied a goal for Segerstrom.
Katella 7, Bishop Diego 0: Syprus Ohanesian had a hat trick, as the Knights (16-6-3) defeated the Cardinals (10-10-1). Denise Hernandez added two goals and three assists fro Katella.
Santa Ana Valley 4, Covina 0: Genesis Alonso had a goal and three assists to lead the visiting Falcons (14-7-2) over the Rams (10-9-4). Brenda Chopin, Teresa Marroquin, and Jessica Reyes each scored a goal for Santa Ana Valley.
Ocean View 2, Duarte 0: Sam Romo and Jade Kratovil scored goals, as the host Seahawks (11-8-1) beat the Falcons (8-11-2).
In CIF-SS Division 7
Saddleback Valley Christian 2, Alhambra 0: Maddie Castle and Megan Stoll each recorded a goal and an assist, as the host Warriors (16-5-1) knocked off the Moors (11-7-4).
