Here are my predictions for the Division 4 first round matches.
Saddleback vs. Artesia: The Roadrunners were one of the county’s bigger surprises, as Saddleback finished second in the Orange Coast League, one point behind league champion Estancia. The duo of Lilibeth Torres and Maritssa Perez lead the attack for the Roadrunners, combining for 34 goals and 15 assists. Artesia went 8-2-2 in the Suburban League. They lost to Cerritos 2-1 in the regular season finale, snapping a six match unbeaten streak. Should be an even match here, and though Artesia is at home, I will go with the road team to squeeze out a victory in this one.
Winner: Saddleback
Laguna Beach at Culver City: The Breakers come into the match on the heels of their 5-0 win over Cerritos in the first round. It was the most goals scored by Laguna Beach this season. Laguna Beach is now undefeated in eight straight matches. The Centaurs won the Ocean League title this season and posted a 9-1 record. Culver City won its final three matches by a combined scored of 17-2. A tough match to call here with two teams playing well, but I will vote for the home team in this one.
Winner: Culver City
Beverly Hills at Estancia: The Normans were third in the Ocean League behind Culver City and Santa Monica. It will be the first time this season that Beverly Hills will go head to head with a county team. Seniors Ashley Aviram and Kaela Reisfelt have total 32 goals and 37 assists. The Eagles won the Orange Coast League with an unbeaten record, but only won half of their 10 league matches. They have won three of their last four matches and haven’t allowed a goal in those last four matches. The Eagles defense will need to be strong against the Normans attack. Timely scoring will help Estancia advance into the second round.
Winner: Estancia
