COUNTY OUTLOOK
(Division 3AAA girls basketball playoff bracket)
El Dorado: The Hawks picked up the No. 3 seed after finishing third in the Century League, which is arguably the toughest league in the county. El Dorado has a very young team, but they are talented. Sophomore forward Jaylin Jones and sophomore guard Brooke Salas lead the Hawks.
El Modena: The Vanguards, an at-large team from the Century League with six victories this season, probably won’t be around long. They drew top-seeded Gahr of cerritos in the first round.
Laguna Hills: The fourth-seeded Hawks, the defending Division 3AA champion, took a big hit when senior center Anna Mumm suffered a season-ending knee injury two weeks ago. Laguna Hills still has senior point guard Maddy Ziering-Smith and senior forward Taylor Messick.
La Habra: The 13th-seeded Highlanders have a winnable game at home against Western in the first round, but then they would probably run into fourth-seeded Laguna Hills in the second round.
La Quinta: It looks like the Aztecs will have a brief appearance in the playoffs because they open at third-seeded El Dorado in the first round.
Los Amigos: Even though they won the Garden Grove League title, the Lobos will be underdogs against 10th-seeded Glendora in the first round.
Rancho Alamitos: The Vaqueros finished second in the Garden Grove League and got a home game in the first round, but they will be underdogs against 16th-seeded Royal of Simi Valley.
Savanna: The Rebels, the second place team from the Orange League, got a home game in the first round, but they will be underdogs against sixth-seeded Rio Mesa of Oxnard.
Sonora: The second-seeded Raiders, who took second in the Freeway League, could end up playing 15th-seeded Agoura in the second round. Agoura upset the Raiders in the second round last season.
