COUNTY OUTLOOK
(Division 2AA girls basketball playoff bracket.)
Beckman: The Patriots won four of their final five regular season games to claim second place in the Pacific Coast League. The 15th-seeded Patriots will be favored against Whittier in the first round, but they will be underdogs against second-seeded Cajon of San Bernardino in the second round.
Sunny Hills: The Lancers lost a third-place playoff game against La Habra, so they enter the postseason as an at-large team from the Freeway League. Sunny Hills drew a tough assignment on the road against third-seeded Lynwood in the first round. The Lancers will need a huge performance from senior guard Madison Cruse to have a shot at an upset.
University: The 16th-seeded Trojans, the third-place team from the Pacific Coast League, have a good shot a victory at Santa Fe of Santa Fe Springs in the first round, but they would be huge underdogs against top-seeded Mark Keppel of Alhambra in the second round.
Villa Park: The Spartans are much better that their 11-13 record would indicate and they are battle-tested coming out of the Century League, but they open on the road at second-seeded Cajon of San Bernardino. It could be a quick exit for Villa Park.
Woodbridge: The fifth-seeded Warriors went undefeated in league to win the Pacific Coast League title. They bring a six-game winning streak into the postseason. Senior forward Sarah Lipton is a big-time scorer, senior Emma Shimizu is one of the better point guards in the county and junior guard Kelli Robinson can knock down 3-pointers.
