
The final Tuesday of January was busy day of soccer action throughout the county. Here is a look at some of the results.
In the Century League:
No. 9 Villa Park 2, El Dorado 0: Jenna Reeves and Bethany Sutherland scored first half goals in the Spartans (14-5-4; 7-1) win over the Golden Hawks (6-14; 1-9) at El Modena High.
Esperanza 2, Canyon 2: The Aztecs and Comanches played to their second tie of the season at El Modena High. Lauren Guerra and Brittany Dyer scored goals for Esperanza, while Jessica Cadreau and Lindsay Kobayashi tallied goals for Canyon.
Brea Olinda 3, El Modena 1: Gissel Avila scored twice to help guide the host Wildcats (10-7-6; 4-4) over the Vanguards (7-14-1; 1-9).
In the South Coast League:
No. 3 Aliso Niguel 1, San Clemente 1: Nikki Faris tallied the match-equalizer in the second half, as the visiting Tritons (8-5-6; 1-2-3) and Wolverines (8-3-6; 1-1-5) played to a draw. Lauren Miller scored a first half goal for Aliso Niguel.
In the Freeway League:
No. 4 Sunny Hills 3, La Habra 0: The visiting Lancers (17-1-5; 6-0-1) received a goal and an assist from Bethany Hanson and Maribell Morales in their win over the Highlanders.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Northwood 2, No. 5 Corona del Mar 0: Somantha Solaru and Chinyere Chambers each scored a goal, as the Timberwolves (9-7-1; 5-2) moved into sole possession of first place with a win over the Sea Kings (11-3-4; 3-1-2) at Estancia High.
University 2, Irvine 1: Chloe Hemingway and Darya Fenton scored a goal in the second half, as the Trojans (9-4-3; 4-2) rallied to defeat the Vaqueros (7-10-3; 3-3-1) at Irvine High.
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 3, Laguna Hills 0: Kaiya McCullough scored two goals to lead the Chargers (6-8-3; 2-2-1) over the Hawks (4-11-4; 1-3-2) at El Toro High. Kelley Peterson also scored for El Toro.
In the Trinity League:
Rosary 1, No. 8 Orange Lutheran 0: Kelly Loughran’s second half goal lifted the visiting Royals (8-8-6; 1-3-2) past the Lancers (14-2-5; 2-1-2). Emma Toohey had four saves for Rosary.
Santa Margarita 1, Mater Dei 0: Kaitlin Klawunder scored the lone goal of the match in the first half to lead the host Eagles (7-4-4; 4-0-2) over the Monarchs (9-9-3; 2-4). Taylor Wulf and Chelsea Carey each had four saves for Santa Margarita.
In the Sunset League:
Newport Harbor 2, Fountain Valley 1: Natalie Ward scored the match winner in the second half in the Sailors (3-13-4; 1-4-2) win over the Barons (5-9-5; 0-5-2) at Newport Harbor.
Marina 0, Huntington Beach 0: The Vikings (5-12-4; 2-3-2) and Oilers (7-4-6; 2-2-3) played to a scoreless tie at Huntington Beach High. Emma Walker had eight saves for Marina, while Kate Hart and Jane Potter combined for nine saves for Huntington Beach.
In the Orange League:
Santa Ana Valley 2, Savanna 0: Genesis Alonso scored a goal in each half to propel the Falcons (10-7-2; 4-2-1) past the Rebels at Savanna High. Gabby Arambulo had 10 saves for Santa Ana Valley.
Anaheim 3, Magnolia 0: Elisa Contreras scored two goals in the visiting Colonists victory over the Sentinels (0-16-1; 0-5). Jocelyn Escalante added a goal for Anaheim.
In the Orange Coast League:
Laguna Beach 2, Saddleback 2: Despite two goals from Lillibeth Torres, the Roadrunners (9-4-4; 3-2-2) and the Breakers (4-8-6; 1-3-3) played to a tie at Saddleback High.
Godinez 0, Calvary Chapel 0: The Eagles and Grizzlies played to a scoreless tie at Centennial Park. Patty Pintor had six saves for Godinez, while Mackenzie Schultz had six saves for Calvary Chapel.
In the Academy League:
St. Margaret’s 6, Whitney 0: Grace Chalmers scored two goals in the Tartans (9-4-4; 5-0) road win. Allie Frost added a goal and two assists for St Margaret’s.
Crean Lutheran 2, Sage Hill 0: Meghan Shoemaker and Maddie Beavers recorded goals in the second half, as the Saints (13-6-1; 5-1) defeated the Lightning (10-6-3; 2-3-1) at Sage Hill.
Oxford Academy 5, Brethren Christian 0: Samar Raghib scored twice in the host Patriots (9-4-2; 3-2-1) win over the Spartans. Brianna Washa and Kaitlyn Sachs recorded a goal and an assist for Oxford Academy.
In the Golden West League:
Segerstrom 2, Ocean View 1: Vivian Vega scored a goal in each half, as the host Jaguars (13-0; 7-0) edged the Seahawks (7-8-1; 2-4-1).
Loara 6, Orange 0: Ivonne Murguia recorded a hat tick in the Saxons (13-6-1; 5-2) win over the Panthers (1-11; 0-6-1) at El Modena High. Josseline Cosio added two goals and an assist for Loara.
Santa Ana 2, Westminster 1: Rosa Soto scored twice, as the host Saints (8-7-3; 2-4-1) were victorious over the Lions (10-6-2; 3-3-1).
In the San Joaquin League:
Saddleback Valley Christian 7, Connelly 0: Megan Stoll recorded a hat trick to lead the visiting Warriors (13-5-1; 7-0-1) over the Koalas.
Capistrano Valley Christian 12, Fairmont Prep 0: Ashley Aguas had a hat tick to guide the Eagles to a win over the Huskies. Lauren Messore, Rachelk Matranga, and Maxine Schreiber scored two goals apiece for Capistrano Valley Christian.
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 1, Village Christian 1: Sophie Basalone scored in the second half of the Heralds’ road tie.
