Brian Barnes had been placed on administrative leave as Tesoro’s football head coach late in the 2012 seaso. School athletic director Gil Ramirez said earlier this month that Tesoro might cut Barnes from the position and begin searching for a replacement, and that’s what Tesoro did today.
Ramirez sent an email today stating that Tesoro is accepting applications for varsity football head coach.
Tesoro did not give a reason for removing Barnes as its head coach on Oct. 30, which is typical for a personnel move. Assistant coach John Hall was promoted to interim head coach. Hall coached the Titans to a nonleague victory over Chula Vista, and was the head coach when Tesoro was eliminated by St. John Bosco of Bellflower in the first round of the Pac-5 Division playoffs.
Tesoro is accepting applications through Feb. 11 from personnel within the Capistrano Unified School District and from outside of the district, Ramirez stated in an email.
The 2012 season was Barnes’ sixth coaching at Tesoro, where he had a 47-22 record. He coached Tesoro to a CIF championship game and a 13-1 record in 2008. Barnes, son of Los Alamitos coach John Barnes, previously was head coach at Estancia.
